The Creative Technologies Academy cross country teams had a successful day this past Saturday at the Central Lake Class “D” Cross Country Invitational. The men’s team finished 7th out of 12 schools with full teams with 167 pts. Sacred Heart Academy – Mt. Pleasant won the meet with 55 pts. For the first time this season, two Chargers broke the 19-minute mark for the guys. Jeremiah Wortz led the way in 18:50, followed closely by Kyle Biddlecome in 18:59. CJ Bouck, Lukas Holstein, and Andre Winters completed the scoring for CTA.
Four lady Chargers competed in the women’s race. Senior Erin Willis continued to lead the way in a time of 22:31. She was followed by Ashton Willis, Grace VanEnk, and Cassie Dille, respectively.
Erin Willis joined the boy’s Jeremiah Wortz on the medal stand for a top 30 finish. Also earning a medal was Halfdan Lien Kjaer with a second place in the men’s JV race. “We are excited to have had so many good times and medal winners,” said Coach Gerry Verwey. “It appears as if the team is responding well to the training program we have implemented.”
CTA’s middle school cross country team also competed at Central Lake. All four female middle school runners earned medals Saturday. Seventh-grader Maegan Roach won the girl’s two-mile race in a time of 12:35. Eighth-grader Alica Beck finished ninth with a time of 14:41 and seventh-grader Hannah Hubbard finished 13th in 14:48. On the boy’s side, Benett Tomandl had a strong race earning a time of 13:44. In the sixth grade race, Annalise VanEnk received a well-earned medal for her 7th place finish.
Both the middle and high school teams will be competing at Carson City-Crystal this Saturday in the Don Baese Invitational at 9 a.m.
