Bouwens leads the way in Red Hawk golf

The Cedar Springs Varsity Girl’s Golf Team had another terrific week powered by Nikki Bouwens.  The Red Hawks went 2-0 in conference and finished 10th at the Greenville Invitational with a 402 (only 6 strokes off from their tournament victory a week ago). Tuesday, @ Cedar Chase, the girls defeated Comstock Park 191 to 244.  Bouwens was medalist with a 37, Chaya Coxon shot a season best 50, Kaylee Costello a 52, and Jackie Champion a 52. At Ridgeview on Wednesday, the Girl golfers shot a season best 189 to defeat Belding.  Bouwens had a season best 35, Costello a 47, Coxon a 53, Zarah Smith a 54 and Champion a 54. This improves the Red Hawks to 4-1 in conference.  Thursday, the girls headed to Bowen Lake in Greenville for one of the toughest tournaments in Western Michigan.

“We played really well,” said Coach Glen London. “Nikki has been on fire.  She is averaging 39 and surpassed this week.  Costello, Smith, and Champion have played consistent and they continue to improve. Then out of no where comes Chaya Coxon. A first year player.” The girls only have two matches next week, then get ready for the Ok Blue conference championship and the State Regional.
