Winter fun

Friends Eli Gunderson and Javen Gee had some winter fun recently while ice fishing on a lake in Solon Township. Not only did they catch this beautiful northern pike on a tip up, they also enjoyed a bonfire to help keep them toasty warm.

Thanks so much for sharing your photo with us!

Have you ever seen a blue snowman? We hadn’t either until we received this photo from the Adrianse family. Here you see Jaden, 12, and Brooklyn, 10, from Cedar Springs, with their creation. “They were playing right in our front yard helping each other build a snowman. They used a spay bottle with food coloring to make their snowman unique!” explained their mom, Michelle.

Thank you for sharing your winter fun photo with us!

Kids love the snow and ice that comes with winter. Icicles are a such a “cool” thing to play with! Just ask Eli Redder, 5, the son of Reba Redder, of Cedar Springs. He is shown here after our first snowstorm, earlier this winter.

Time for winter fun

n-winter-fun-passage

It’s that time of year again, when kids of all ages love to play in the snow. It might be building a snowman, having a snowball fight, making snow angels, building a fort, going sledding, or just plain eating it! In this photo, Autumn Passage, 7, and her sister Meadow, 3, are playing in their backyard with the beautiful Cedar Creek glistening in the background. The photo was submitted by their mom, Stephanie Passage.

Hard Work leads to Sledding Party

Kindergarten and first grade students enjoy sledding as a reward for meeting their reading goals.

Kindergarten and first grade students enjoy sledding as a reward for meeting their reading goals.

The elementary students were able to enjoy some winter fun before the snow melted!

The kindergartners and first graders earned a sledding party because they have worked so hard to meet their reading goals this year. Mrs. Bialkowski, the first grade teacher, and Miss Bostic, the kindergarten teacher, wanted to celebrate their students’ successes!

What better way to celebrate in the winter than with a sledding party followed by hot cocoa and a special treat!

“It was a blast seeing the excitement from these little ones and knowing that all this happened because they had been working so hard in the classroom,” said Miss Bostic. “These kids can make any situation exciting and enjoyable, even this small sledding hill!”

Thank you to all the moms and dads of the first graders and the kindergartners who made this celebration possible! Now they are on to setting and meeting even more goals for the year with National Reading Month right around the corner!

Winter wonderland

Post photo by L. Allen.

Post photo by L. Allen.

The unusually warm weather we had in December left some feeling (or hoping) that winter would never come. But now that it’s January, winter weather warnings and advisories, with blowing snow and windchills below zero, have shown us that we are firmly in the grip of winter. No matter how cold it is, it can still be beautiful, as you can see in this photo.

Do you have photos of winter nature scenes or winter fun you can send us? We’d like to see your landscapes, snowmen and other fun activities. Email them to news@cedarspringspost.com.
