West Michigan Pursuit traveled to Grand Valley State University this past weekend. WMP entered 21 grapplers and placed 16 in the top four. We have two Champions who remain undefeated this season, Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group and Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group. Out of 68 battles, WMP claimed 44 victories. Individual results are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include 95 lb Gage Bowen, 9/10 age group; 58/61 lb Logan Galinis, 6 & under age group and 46 lb Jacob Howard, 6 & under age group.

3rd Place Medalists include 130 lb Isaac Casey, 9/10 age group; 55/59 lb Josh Vasquez, 9/10 age group and 90/95 lb Dylan Whidden, 13/14 age group.

2nd Place Medalists include 55/59 lb Michael Cannon, 9/10 age group and 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 7/8 age group.

Champions are 55 lb Quinten Cassiday, 7/8 age group; 58/61 lb Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group; 58/61 lb Luke Egan, 7/8 age group; 43/49 lb Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group; 72/77 lb Blake Peasley, 7/8 age group, 52 lb Aiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group; 52 lb Kellen Weckesser, 7/8 age group and 126/133 lb Maston Wood, 11/12 age group.

Each week these kids continue to impress with their own determination to be the best they can be. They truly are the Pursuit of Champions,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

West Michigan Pursuit traveled to Gaylord, Greenville, NEMWA Clare and Oklahoma this past weekend. WMP entered 26 grapplers and placed 23 in the top four. We have two Champions who remain undefeated this season, Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group and Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group. Out of 79 battles, WMP claimed 57 victories. Individual results are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include 95 lb Gage Bowen, 9/10 age group; 80/85 lb Xavier Contreras (Gaylord), 11/12 age group; 90 lb Josh Howard, 9/10 Novice age group and 90 lb Kaden Schmid, 11/12 age group.

3rd Place Medalists include 59 lb Logan Whidden, 9/10 Novice age group.

“Wrestling is an emotional sport which tends to bring out the best and worst,” said Head Coach and Owner, Dave Andrus. “Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to keep those high and low emotions in check. These actions can negatively impact the outcome of a match. I strive to impress the importance of good sportsmanship on and off the mat. I want my wrestlers to be the ones that others look up to and admire.”

West Michigan Pursuit traveled to Alma, Orchard View and Traverse City this weekend. WMP entered 24 and placed 18 in the top four. We have two Champions who remain undefeated this season, Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group and Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group. Special recognition to Landon Foss, who went 6-1 to battle back for a true second this weekend. Out of 86 battles, WMP claimed 52 victories. Individual results are as follows:

Fourth place medalists include 90 lb Josh Howard, 9/10 age group and 145 lb Zak Schmid, 13/14 age group.

Third place medalists include 95 lb Gage Bowen, 9/10 age group; 55 lb Quinten Cassiday, 7/8 age group; 90 lb Brocke Fisher, 13/14 age group; 85 lb Braden Hallman, 11/12 age group; 59 lb Kameron Ogden (Orchard View) 9/10 age group and 52 lb Aaiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group.

West Michigan Pursuit traveled to Byron Center this past weekend, which proved to be a tough tournament with over 700 grapplers competing. WMP entered 23 and placed 18 in the top four.

We have three Champions who remain undefeated this season: Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group; Luke Egan, 7/8 age group; and Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group.

Out of 75 battles, WMP claimed 52 victories. Individual results are as follows:

Third place medalists include 46 lb Jacob Howard, 6 and under age group; 85 lb Josh Howard, 9/10 age group; 61/64 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 7/8 age group and 52 lb Kellen Weckesser, 7/8 age group.

Second place medalists include 95 lb Gage Bowen, 9/10 age group; 80 lb Xavier Contreras, 11/12 age group and 90/95 lb Brocke Fisher, 13/14 age group.

Last weekend West Michigan Pursuit traveled to compete at Big Rapids in the North Region for the trophies offered, Grand Haven in the West Region and the Salina Open in Oklahoma. WMP had 29 grapplers competing, placing 26 in the top four and claiming 14 championship titles.

Placements are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include 71 lb Casey Eberspeaker, 9/10 age group; 100 lb David Erxleben, 13/14 age group; 58 lb Logan Galinis in the 6 & under age group; 59 lb Kameron Ogden in the 9/10 age group and 52 lb Kellen Weckesser in the 7/8 age group.

3rd Place Medalist include 95 lb Gage Bowen in the 9/10 age group; 130 lb Isaac Casey in the 9/10 age group; 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes and 95 lb Dylan Whidden in the 13/14 age group.

Special recognition goes to Chayson Eberspeaker and Luke Egan, who remain undefeated this season, and to Andrew Moro, who was recognized as Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

“Watching them build momentum each week is exciting.  Their passion and drive is adding fuel to their levels of confidence. I am thankful for my athletes and the support of their parents,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

This past weekend, West Michigan Pursuit entered 15 grapplers to compete at Reeths Puffer, Spartan Country in Battle Creek, and the US Junior Open Championships in Oklahoma (USJOC). Thirteen placed in the top four. Our team battled 37 times, with 24 ending in victory.

All results are for Reeths Puffer, unless otherwise noted. Placements are as follows:

3rd Place Medalists include 58 lb Logan Galinis, 6 & under age group and 72 lb Blake Peasley (Spartan Country), 7/8 age group.

2nd Place Medalists include 43 lb Jacob Howard, 6 & under age group; 85 lb Joshua Howard, 9/10 Novice age group; 64 lb Tyler Parmeter, 7/8 age group; 52 lb Aaiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group and 59/63 lb Joshua Vasquez, 7/8 age group.

Champions are 90 lb Gage Bowen, 7/8 age group; 80 lb Xavier Contreras, 11/12 age group; 58/61 lb Luke Egan, 7/8 age group; 85 lb Braden Hallman, 11/12 age group; 52 lb Andrew Moro (USJOC) Division 1; and 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 7/8 age group.

“Our numbers were down for the holidays but the efforts were exceptional. These kids show consistent improvement towards reaching their goal of state and national titles,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

This past weekend West Michigan Pursuit entered 23 grapplers to compete in both Belding and the Battle of the Bay in Bay City. Nineteen placed in the top four. Our team battled 72 times with 46 ending in victory. Placements are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include Gage Bowen, 7/8 age group in the 95 lb wt class; Casey Eberspeaker, 7/8 age group in the 71 lb wt class; Logan Galinis, 6 & under age group in the 58 lb wt class; Aaiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group in the 52 lb wt class and Kellen Weckesser, 7/8 age group in the 52 lb wt class.

“Wrestling and my team is a passion of mine,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus. “This group of kids has earned a reputation as a force to be reckoned with. I am very thankful to my wrestlers and their parents for their support and allowing me to make an impact on their lives. Sharing my knowledge to those who wish to learn makes all of my efforts worth it.”

This past weekend, 22 West Michigan Pursuit wrestlers competed in Lakewood, Manton and the Metro kick off in Pontiac, and 21 placed in the top four. The team battled 74 times, with 52 ending in victory.

“I am very excited watching these kids exceed my expectations,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus. “Each week this motivates me to keep doing what I do. Looking forward to see what they will do now and in the future.”

Placements are as follows:

4th place medalists include Madisyn Birtley in the 9/10 Novice age group in the 126 lb wt class; Braden Hallman in the 9/10 age group in the 85 lb wt class; and Kameron Ogden in the 7/8 age group in the 59 lb wt class.

3rd place Medalists include Logan Bennett in the 9/10 age group in the 75 lb wt class; Isaac Casey in the 9/10 age group in the 130 lb wt class; Xavier Contreras in the 9/10 age group in the 80 lb wt class; Casey Eberspeaker in the 7/8 age group in the 71 lb wt class; and Isaiah Sostenes in the 7/8 age group in the 64 lb wt class.

The first tournament of the 2015-2016  MYWA Western Region tournament was hosted by Mona Shores this past weekend. West Michigan Pursuit brought sixteen grapplers to compete with eight entering novice and the rest entering the open division. The team battled 56 times with 33 ending in victory, and 14 young competitors placing in the top five.

“Every year I have returning champions, more who are training to gain that status and those looking to join our team. Looking at the team I have right now, I am very impressed and excited to see what the 2015 season brings,” said owner and head coach Dave Andrus. This week’s placements are as follows:

5th Place Medalist include Kaden Schmid in the 9/10 Open age group in the 85 lb wt class.

4th Place Medalists include Logan Bennett in the 9/10 Open age group in the 75 lb wt class, David Erxleben in the 13/14 Open age group in the 95 lb wt class and Jacob Howard in the 4-6 Novice age group in the 46 lb wt class.

3rd Place Medalists include Caden Kelly in the 7/8 Novice age group in the 67 lb wt class and Kellen Weckesser in the 7/8 Open age group in the 52 lb wt class.

2nd Place Medalist include Joshua Howard in the 9/10 Novice age group in the 85 lb wt class and Zak Schmid in the 13/14 Open age group in the 155 lb wt class.

Champions are Michael Cannon in the 9/10 Open age group in the 55/59 lb wt class, Chayson Eberspeaker in the 4-6 Novice age group in the 55/58 lb wt class, Luke Egan in the 7/8 Open age group in the 58/61 lb wt class, Tyler Parmeter in the 7/8 Novice age group in the 61 lb wt class, Blake Peasley in the 7/8 Open age group in the 72/77 lb wt class and Isaiah Sostenes in the 7/8 Open age group in the 64/67 lb wt class.

WMP wrestlers at NUWAY nationals


S-Wrestling-WMP-Nationals

This past weekend West Michigan Pursuit traveled to the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek for the 2015 NUWAY Nationals. There were tough wrestlers from coast to coast, many champions and All-Americans from multiple states taking home the NUWAY Eagle super-sized trophies and All-American status. West Michigan Pursuit brought 10 grapplers to compete and 8 placed in the top eight. The team battled 44 times with 28 ending in victory.

Luke Egan entered Division 2 in the 52 lb wt class. He is a second year wrestler and is a first grader of Cedar Trails Elementary. Luke finished 6th in the Nation with a final record of 37-15 securing an All American Status.

Gage Bowen entered Division 2 in the heavy weight class. He is a fourth year wrestler and is a third grader of Woodview Elementary of Belding. Gage finished 5th in the Nation with a final record of 39-7 securing an All American Status.

Lee Braun entered Division 2 in the 56 lb wt class. He is a third year wrestler and is a third grader of Jamestown Elementary of Hudsonville. Lee finished 4th in the Nation with a final record of 36-8 securing an All American Status.

Blake Peasley entered Division 2 in the 64 lb wt class. He is a third year wrestler and is a second grader of Lakes Elementary of Rockford. Blake finished 4th in the Nation with a final record of 38-10 securing an All American Status.

Zak Schmid entered Division 4 in the 135 lb wt class. He is a second year wrestler as a seventh grader of Cedar Springs Middle School. Zak finished 4th in the Nation with a final record of 33-5 securing an All American Status.

Josh Vasquez entered Division 2 in the 49 lb wt class. He is a third year wrestler as a third grader of Oriole Park of Wyoming. Josh finished 3rd in the Nation with a final record of 54-5 securing an All American Status.

Jayden Marcano-Cruz entered Division 1 in the 45 lb wt class. He is a second year wrestler as a first grader of Grandview Elementary. Jayden finished 2nd in the Nation with a final record of 45-5 securing an All American Status.

Patrick Depiazza entered into Division 6 as a wild card in the High School division. Patrick is a sophomore of Cedar Springs High School and has been wrestling for thirteen years. He finished 2nd in the Nation, securing an All American Status.

There were over 270 teams competing this past weekend. Team awards were available for the top six programs. West Michigan Pursuit finished 3rd overall with a team score of 176. Region Wrestling of Indiana took first place with a score of 212.5 and Contenders Wrestling of Indiana took 2nd place with a score of 193. West Michigan Pursuit also finished 2nd for the win by fall category. Shore Sports Club of Ohio finished in first place for the win by fall category. Overall, West Michigan Pursuit ended the season on a high note. The program would not have its current success without its dedicated coaching staff: Head Coach and Owner, Dave Andrus; William Ketchum; and Dominick Chong. We look forward to next season and will watch our numbers continue to grow and succeed. We are the Pursuit of Champions.
