Seussical The Musical

Our kindergarten through 5th grade students attended Seussical the Musical at the Grand Rapids Civic theatre. This field trip was made  possible due to our successful walk-a-thon and partnership with our Parent Association.

Successful Walk-A-Thon benefits elementary students

Third grade students Deegan VanHarten and Colren Bailey jump double at the jump rope station.

The Creative Technologies Academy Parent Association held their annual walk-a-thon on October 6. It was a huge success! They raised almost $3,800. This fundraiser was held to benefit the elementary grades to provide field trips and other classroom needs. The walk was held on the school grounds and the classes took turns with their reading buddies participating in the walk-a-thon activities. They all really enjoyed it, and had a lot of fun! The PA did it a little different than in the past years and opted to have activity stations. The students raced on scooters,

swiveled hula hoops, jumped rope, and danced to music. The teachers also enjoyed engaging with their students and watching them enjoy themselves. A huge thank you to our sponsors – Walmart and Meijer for gift cards to buy our snacks and water and Burger King for donating free hamburgers or a free ice cream cone vouchers. Our top class who raised the most money was the 3rd graders who will receive a pizza party and $200 towards books for their classroom. The 5th grade class also earned a pizza party. Thank you to all who helped plan, volunteered on-site and donated to make the walk a huge success!

2nd Annual Walk-A-Thon A Huge Success

PA Volunteers hold a pool noodle for students to limbo under during the annual Walk-A-Thon.

The 2nd Annual CTA Parent Association (PA) Chargers Walk-a-Thon was held on Friday, Sept. 30th. While it was scheduled to be a day-long event at Skinner Field, with the ongoing rain, the team decided that the festivities would be held at the CTA campus. All students in grades K-12 walked at a designated time during the day in order to earn money for class field trips. The students raised over $4,700 to offset the cost of educational field trips for the year.

The CTA Parent Association volunteers (PA) started early to set up the course and cheered the kids on to the finish line. Obstacles, such as hula hoops and a limbo stick were set up around the course. The students and volunteers kept their spirits up – in true Charger fashion – despite the rainy day. They all enjoyed fresh apples from Klackle Orchards and received a blue Charger water bottle as a gift from the PA.

Students enjoying a snack after the Walk-A-Thon

WOW! What an awesome start to the year for the little Chargers of Creative Technologies Academy! CTA Elementary was busy with lots of fun things: the annual Walk-A-Thon and the Red Flannel Festival!

The Walk-A-Thon included obstacles for the students, including a finish line they got to cross after each lap.

The CTA Parent Association decided to have one – and only one – BIG fundraiser this year: A Walk-a-Thon. The students were asked to contact their friends and family to donate to their participation in the Walk-a-Thon at our local Skinner Field. All of the donations are going towards funding for educational class field trips. In fact, every grade in the elementary raised enough to go to Klackle Orchards where they will learn about various apple processes, agricultural practices and of course enjoy samples and experience apple picking – completely paid for by the donors! Nice work, Chargers!

CTA was ever-present in the Red Flannel festivities this year. We participated in the window decorating competition. Congratulations to third grade for a first place ranking this year. This was also the first year that CTA walked as a school in the Red Flannel parade. And boy, did we pick a good year to start! A little rain and cold won’t hold us Chargers down! NO WAY!

The Cedar Springs Elementary PTO held a Walk-a-thon Friday, October 17, which was their one fundraiser for this year. They raised $24,192.96, which will go directly to the four elementary schools that participated—Cedar Trails, Beach, Cedar View and Red Hawk.

According to Liz Grice, with the PTO, the money will go toward playground equipment, library books and other educational items.

“We had 2,119 participants, including students, staff and volunteers,” said Grice. “We accepted sponsorships from companies in and around Cedar Springs to purchase a t-shirt for every student at these four schools. The day of the event the students and staff all wore their matching red shirts and walked the stadium.”

The students took pledges from friends and family prior to the event. On the day of the Walkathon, classes walked to Red Hawk Stadium at the High School, and then around the track for a half hour while music played. The top classes in each grade won $200 for their class.

Annual Walk-a-Thon

The Cedar Spring Elementary PTO is stepping up the annual Walk-a-Thon! The coordinating team, led by Liz Grice and Andrea Dersch, has been seeking corporate sponsorships in the Cedar Springs community so that there is no cost to the PTO for the Walk-a-Thon.  Thanks to the generous support of businesses with ties to Cedar Springs, each elementary student will receive a red t-shirt they will be proud to wear throughout the year.  This also means that every dollar pledged to Cedar Springs students will stay in their school.  This is the only fundraiser for the PTO this year so we are asking parents to consider what you would have spent on subs, cookie dough, wrapping paper and the like.  Put that money towards a generous pledge for your student and make a huge impact in our schools.  Want to cheer your student on? Attend the Walk-a-Thon at Red Hawk Stadium on Friday, October 17 during your school’s timeslot.  Fill the stands with cowbells, cheering, and clapping as we celebrate the support of education with a healthy and fun filled event.  Spread the word and encourage your student as they fill their pledge sheets!
