SALLY JO LEWIS


 

Sally Jo Lewis, age 71, of Cedar Springs, formerly of Vestaburg, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home in Cedar Springs, Michigan. Sally was born in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Donald F. and Marion Clara (Mulford) Price. She was raised in the Ionia area attending local public schools. Sally graduated from Cedar Springs in 1982. She married Jasper Lewis in Cedar Springs in 1982. Sally had many hobbies including Karaoke (she was known as the Karaoke Queen and Mustang Sally), fishing, picnics, visiting with family and friends, and she loved Elvis and country music. Sally was a member of Springs Church in Cedar Springs. Sally will be missed by her husband Jasper Lewis; three children Joseph A. (Stephanie) Price of Lansing, George J. (DeeAnna) Hinderline of Mt. Pleasant, and Mary (Robert Vansplinter) Woodard of Pierson; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister Vicki Sue (Doug) Wagner of Lansing; four step-siblings Jackie Topper of Stanton, Dianne Greenhoe of Stanton, Bill (Darlene) Esch of Mount Pleasant, and Jeff Esch of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and church family. Sally was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Marion Price; two sons Matthew and Michael Hinderline; two brothers Barry and Larry Price; former husband George W. Hinderline; niece Melissa Price; and nephew Donald F. Misner. Funeral services for Sally will be held Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior, at the Springs Church, 135 Grant St., Cedar Springs, Michigan, with Pastor Robert Jones officiating. The family will be accepting friends at visitation on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. A private burial will take place in Richland Township Cemetery the following day. Those wishing to contribute in Sally’s memory are asked to consider Community First Federal Credit Union Lakeview, Michigan, for Jasper Lewis.

CS softball players to play college ball


Taylor Nielsen signs with Argos Of Great Falls University in Montana.

Cedar Springs seniors Taylor Nielsen and Erica Wagner have signed National Letters of Intent to play College Softball.

Taylor Nielsen has signed to play with the Argos of Great Falls University, a Catholic university located in Great Falls Montana. UGF plays in the CAL/PAC Frontier Conference. Taylor will be studying Pre-Med, with a focus of going on to be an Orthopedic Surgeon. Taylor is playing her fourth year on varsity for the Red Hawks. The last 3 seasons she has earned All Conference, All District, All Region, and All Area Honors. Taylor is Team Captain and has earned Individual Academic All State Honors early in the 2012 season. The past three summers she has played travel ball for Elite and the Grand Rapids Blaze.

Erica Wagner signs with the Saints of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.

Erica Wagner has signed to play with the Saints of Aquinas College, a Catholic college located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Aquinas plays in the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference. Erica is undecided about her major. Erica is playing her fourth year on varsity for the Red Hawks, earning All Conference, All District, All Region, and All Area Honors the last three seasons. Erica is Team Captain and has Earned Individual Academic All State Honors early in the 2012 season. Erica has also played travel ball in the summer with the Superior Sting.

Joseph Wayne Wagner


Mr. Joseph Wayne Wagner, age 41. The Angels came and took Joe to be with Jesus on July 3, 2011, and he does not have to suffer any more. Joe worked as a steel fabricator for Granco-Clark in Belding. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Wanda (nee White) Wagner; the love of his life, Leslie Wagner; his dogs, Shilo, Sammy, and Bambi who he called “My Boys”; grandmother, Mrs. Stella White; aunts and uncles, Mike and Sharon Wagner, Verna and James Smigiel, Vernon and Judy White, Harvey and Margaret White, and Dennis and Colleen White; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wayne White, his grandparents, Matthew and Rita Wagner, and his uncle, Edward White. The service for Joe was Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home. Interment in Courtland Township Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the needs of the family. Sparta man dies in traffic accident


A 20-year-old Sparta man died last Friday morning, January 14, when the car he was driving slid into another vehicle.
Michael Ponne, 20, of Sparta, had reportedly been visiting his girlfriend on East Sternberg Road in Fruitport Township, and was driving east to his job at a Sparta bank about 7:50 a.m. when his Mercury sedan went into a slide, crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound Chevy Impala driven by David Lane, 34, also of Sparta.
Ponne was reportedly pinned in the wreckage, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Lane suffered a minor leg injury.
Both men were reportedly wearing their seatbelts.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 21, 3:30 p.m. at the Sparta High School Auditorium with Rev. Nate Wagner officiating. Interment in Blythefield Memory Gardens. Friends may meet the family at the Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home on Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday at the High School one hour prior to the service.
