Red bowlers take second in conference


S-Bowling

Cedar springs hosted the end of the season conference tournament on February 17. The boys and girls both finished 2nd in conference.

The top boy bowlers of the tournament were senior Dugan Conely in 8th place, and senior Trevor Ruark in 9th. The top girls were sophomore Sarah Galloway in 4th, and freshman Omani Morales and senior Breanna Fiekema tied for 6th.

January 11: Conference match against Forest Hills Northern. Boys won 21-9, Girls won 26.5-3.5.

January 17: Non-conference match against Allendale. Boys lost 8-22, Girls won 22-8.

January 19: Conference match against Lowell. Boys lost 3.5-26.5, Girls won 27-3.

January 25: Conference match against Forest Hills Central. Boys won 18-12, Girls lost  14.5-15.5.

February 1: Conference match against Ottawa Hills. Boys won 29-1, Girls won 30-0.

February 4: Hudsonville invite. Boys placed 6th, Girls placed 7th. Trevor Ruark placed 3rd for individuals with a 453.

Red Hawk bowler places 10th at invite

Trevor Ruark, from the Cedar Springs boys bowling team, placed 10th out of over 85 boys for individual games at the Wyoming invitational on Saturday, December 3. Trevor bowled a 188 and a 175.

Saturday, January 23, the Cedar Springs boys bowling team bowled at the East Kentwood tournament, with over 26 teams at the tournament, cedar springs boys finished 5th. They honored the top four individual high games, Trevor Ruark received a medal for 3rd place with his high game of a 267.

Saturday, January 30, the boys bowled at the Rockford tournament, with 16 boys teams the top 8 qualify to move on, Cedar springs placed 5th and went up against South Christian and lost. At this tournament they honored the top 8 individuals for total of their two games. Dugan Conely received a medal for 5th place. He bowled a 245 and 216 for a total of 461.

Bowlers receive medals for high games

Cedar Springs bowled at the East Kentwood invitational tournament on Saturday, January 24, and two Red Hawk bowlers received medals for top high scores of the day. Blake Fisk bowled a 276 and was the 3rd top highest and Trevor Ruark bowled a 268 and was the 4th highest out of 17 teams that participated, with at least 5 kids or more on each team. Other bowlers on the team bowled well also. Scores were:

Kyle Knarr 180, 192, 162

Jacob Cartwright 193, 209, 222, 190

Blake Fisk 276, 214, 218, 268

They took the top 10 teams to move on and Cedar Springs boys were 2nd.  They then bowled 10 bakers games to determine placment and they placed 3rd, only 27 pins away from 2nd. Coach Todd Austin and assistant Coach Tyler Ruark were happy with how great they bowled.

Coach Heidi Feikema, for the girls team, was excited that the girls moved on after the final cut. They placed 7th in the first round. They bowled the 10 bakers games and struggled during those games, which landed them 7th place in the final round.

Cedar Springs boys and girls teams have been bowling great during their regular season with both wins and high scores.

The girls have won three games against Wyoming, Forest Hills Eastern and Forest Hills Northern, and one loss against Northview. During the January 14th match against Forest Hills Eastern, Emma Schut bowled a high game of 258.

The boys have won two games against Forest Hills Eastern and Forest Hills Northern, and lost two games against Northview and Wyoming. During our match against Wyoming on January 7, Blake Fisk bowled a high game of 289, breaking the school record, which was held last year by Trevor Ruark, with a 286.

Cedar Springs boys bowl high games


The Cedar Springs Boys Bowling team had their pre-season conference meet on Saturday, January 3, at Rockford Lanes.

Three of their bowlers rolled the highest games of the day.

Jacob Cartwright bowled a 280. He had a strike, a spare and then finished out the game with 10 more strikes.

Trevor Ruark bowled a 279. He had 6 strikes in a row, got a spare, and then finished with five more strikes.

Kyle Knarr bowled a 277. He had 9 strikes in a row and then got a spare, then 9 pins.

“With these high scores, we were in first place, but, unfortunately, we came in second, losing by 45 pins to Wyoming, who is our toughest competitor,” said Coach Chris Ruark.
