The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office was sent to a one-car crash near the intersection of Grow and Kroman Roads in Fairplain Township at approximately 2:06 P.M. on Sunday, September 29, 2019. The passenger died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.
The investigation revealed that a black 2008 Pontiac G6 was traveling south on Grow road when the driver, Randy A. Wilson, age 36 from Stanton, lost control on wet roads. The Pontiac left the road to the left where it overturned multiple times. The passenger, Krista L. Kinyon age 35 from Stanton, was ejected from the vehicle. Kinyon was pronounced dead at the scene and Wilson was transported to United Memorial Hospital in Greenville for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Kinyon was not wearing her seatbelt.
The rain and wet roads were a contributing factor in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Greenville Department of Public Safety, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, Sheridan Fire Department, Montcalm County Road Commission, and the medical examiner’s office.
The crash remains under investigation.

U.S. 5th FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS—A 1977 Central Montcalm graduate and Stanton, Michigan native is a part of a Navy team tasked to protect the skies over the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. Cmdr. Catherine McDonald is a family nurse practitioner, at an expeditionary medical clinic.
“I am providing medical services to multi service members here. We provide urgent, primary and preventative health care and coordinate emergency services with host ambulance services,” said McDonald.
Within this undisclosed location in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, sailors from all over the United States come together to form one unit, providing unparalleled support to multiservice personnel within the area of operations. These sailors, soldiers, airmen and marines work together to deter and counter disruptive countries, defeat violent extremism and strengthen security and stability throughout the region. She is one of thousands of Sailors forward deployed to the Middle East in the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet.
The Navy’s 5th Fleet’s area of operation encompasses about 2.5 million square miles of water area and includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The expanse comprises 20 countries, including three critical choke points at the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb at the southern tip of Yemen.
McDonald is receiving firsthand experience working in a foreign country alongside coalition-focused forces that are executing the full spectrum of maritime operations with foreign counterparts, to keep the world safe from hostile forces.
“There are great people here. Being a more senior member, I appreciate how the team coordinates their efforts,” said McDonald. “This is one of the friendliest groups I’ve ever deployed with.”
McDonald realizes the significance of serving her country abroad and is proud of the work she is doing in the Middle East helping protect America halfway around the world. “Being a family nurse practitioner opened up a whole new scope of practice and a whole new scope of collegiality,” said McDonald. “There is a high level of respect between the doctors and nurses and all the medical staff here.”

Robert G. Stanton, Sr. 85 passed away Friday evening, May 2, 2014 at Sanctuary of St. Mary’s. Robert was born January 5, 1929 in Wyoming, Michigan the son of Frank and Olga (Hallock) Stanton. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and had worked for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company for 30 years. He loved the outdoors, was a lifelong Catholic and very dedicated to his family. Surviving are his children, Shirlee Kamstra, Janet Stanton, Bonnie (Mike) Thomas, Robert (Misti) Stanton Jr., Theresa (Mark) Freiberg, Michael (Debbie) Stanton Sr., Patrick Stanton Sr., Timothy Stanton, Coleen (Francisco) Rivera, Brian Stanton & Roxanne Cebelak, Jennifer (Barry) Campbell; 28 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond Smith, Ruthie Smith, Willard (Carolyn) Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grayce; and his brothers and sisters. The family received friends Tuesday at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a Rosary was prayed. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 7 at Mary Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to Mary Queen of Apostles Church.

The Montcalm County Sheriff Department is looking for the man who assaulted a Stanton woman Sunday evening.
According to police, the 23-year-old woman was walking near a small lake in the Colby Ranch game area in Sidney Township about 10:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 1, when a man driving a red car approached her. The man reportedly made sexual advances toward the woman and became hostile when she refused. He then attacked and choked the woman, and attempted to sexually assault her. She was able to escape and call 911.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5-feet-11-inches, 30 to 40 years old, 250 pounds, with a big gut and shiny, bald head. He was wearing sunglasses, a red t-shirt, and cut-off blue jean shorts. The suspect vehicle was described a long red car, possibly an Oldsmobile.
