Woman killed in crash with semi


A woman died when she turned into the path of an oncoming semi in Courtland Township Tuesday. Photo from WOOD-TV 8.

A 77-year-old Grand Rapids woman died Tuesday, October 24, when her vehicle collided with a semi tractor in Courtland Township.

According to the Michigan State Police Rockford Post, the woman was traveling westbound on M-57 about 12:25 p.m. in a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, when she attempted to turn south on to Northland Drive and into the path of a Freightliner semi tractor traveling eastbound on M-57. The woman died at the scene as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash. Her name has not yet been released.

The driver of the semi, a 59-year-old Greenville man, was not injured.

Police said that neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.

The Courtland Township Fire Department, Kent County Sheriff Department, and Rockford Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Man dies in crash with semi

A Greenville man died on Monday, November 16, after his vehicle collided with a semi truck in Algoma Township.

According to the Michigan State Police Rockford Post, Jimmy Lee King, 35, of Greenville, was driving westbound on 14 Mile Road, west of Northland Drive, when his vehicle crossed into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer early Monday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Algoma Township Fire and Rescue, Rockford EMS, and the Kent County Sheriff’s Department all assisted MSP at the scene.

King is survived by his wife, Shawn, and their two children, Daylyn and Landon, of Greenville. Visitation with the family is from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at Christiansen Cremation Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a memorial service immediately following.

Teen killed in early morning crash

A White Cloud teen died in an early morning crash south of Cedar Springs Tuesday.

According to the Kent County Sheriff Department, Taylor Jean Oberlin, 19, was heading west on Indian Lakes Rd, in her 2000 Monte Carlo, about 5:20 a.m., on Tuesday, October 15, when she ran the stop sign at Northland Drive and was struck by a northbound semi.

The driver of the semi, Nathan Charles Roosien, 34, of Wyoming, Michigan, was unable to stop before striking the driver’s side of the car. He was uninjured.

The teen died at the scene of her injuries.

Assisting at the scene was Cedar Springs Fire and Rescue, Algoma Fire and Rescue, and the Michigan State Police.
