Several fire departments were dispatched to a house fire in Oakfield Township Wednesday, about 2:30 p.m., at 10903 Nugent, on Scram Lake.
According to Oakfield Fire Chief Sam Peterson, they saw heavy smoke coming from the top floor on both ends of the house when they arrived on scene. He said they were able to get the fire under control in about 45 minutes, and cleared the scene by 5:30 p.m.
Peterson said he believes the fire started in an upstairs bedroom, but will know more once the MSP fire investigator inspects the site.
There was one person at home at the time of the fire, and they got out safely.
Peterson said the home was not a total loss. “About 75 percent of the structure is still good. They only lost part of the upper floor. Flames never reached the other side. There is some smoke and water damage, but the structure is still good,” he explained.
Oakfield, Grattan, and Courtland Township Fire Departments all responded to the scene.
