DOROTHY A. HELSEL


Dorothy A. Helsel age 87 of Cedar Springs died Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Anne’s Home, Grand Rapids. Mrs. Helsel was born August 26, 1930 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Stanley and Francis (Blasczyzk) Jaskiewicz. She retired from General Motors Alpine Avenue plant. Dorothy loved and adored her grandchildren, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with close friends and family. She made rosaries and was very devoted to the rosary. Surviving are her daughters, Deb (Carl) Allen, Tena (Mike) Hoxsie; grandchildren, Mike (LesLee) Michalek, Joann (Matt) Johnson, John (Gwen) Michalek, Laura (Drew) Felsted, Kendall Hoxsie; great grandchildren, David, Jack, Mia, Lillie and Piper; brother, Ray (June) Jaskiewicz; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy (Mic) Michalek; grandson, Todd Allen. A special thank you to St. Anne’s Home for their wonderful love, care and support. The family will greet friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Paul II or St. Anne’s Home.

EMMAJEANNE ALBRECHT


 

EmmaJeanne (Hamilton) Albrecht 90 of Grand Rapids, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. She was born November 5, 1927 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Paul and Mary (Steele) Feutz. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She was always there for her family and nothing was more important. Surviving are her children, Joe (Sheryl) Hamilton of Wayland, John (Ruth) Hamilton of Jenison, Julie (Mark) Barnhart, Joni (Scott) Olmsted, Jeff (Annette) Hamilton all of Cedar Springs, Jan Chase of Gobles, Jeanne Hamilton of Pierson, Greg Albrecht of Grand Rapids, and Ted Albrecht of Rockford; son-in-law, Marshall Morris of Cedar Springs; sisters, Nancee Cyr of Kalamazoo, Sally (George) Erwood of Grand Rapids; brothers, Roger (Mary) Feutz, Richard (Sunop) Feutz of Grand Rapids, and Tom (Alice) Feutz of Cedar Springs; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Donald Hamilton and Arlie Albrecht; daughter, Jari Morris; son-in-law, Chris Chase; brothers David Feutz and Gerard (Evelyn) Feutz; brother-in-law, Bill Cyr; sister-in-law, Connie Feutz. The family will receive friends Wednesday February 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Lam Le presiding. Interment Pierson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart or Diabetes Associations.

AARON LEE DAULT


Aaron Lee Dault age 23 of Cedar Springs, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Aaron was born January 3, 1995 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of Dean and Kara (Wiles) Dault. He was a 2013 graduate of Cedar Springs High School and was finishing his bachelor degree at Ferris State University. He loved being with his family and friends, playing soccer and his guitar. He was a genuine, kind-hearted and humble young man who will be deeply missed by many. Aaron was involved at his church, St. John Paul II where he was adored by the parishioners and everyone he met. He will be remembered for his million dollar smile holding the door open and saying “hi” to the people as they came for Mass. Surviving are his parents, Dean and Kara Dault; brother and sisters, Luke, Grace and Sophia; grandparents, Sue Dault, Sue and Bruce Cadwell, and Diana Wiles; great-grandmothers, Ann Wiles and Barb Herrington; aunts and uncles, Deb (Tom) Kies, Dano (Carrie) Dault, Tricia (Dwight) Perkin, Lindsey Wiles, Tyler Wiles, Jenna Wiles, Carrie (Brandon) Covington, Cory (Tina) Cadwell, Erin (Jim) Carter, Erica Purcell, Kim Bolens; many cousins and many many special friends. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Lee Dault and Doyle Wiles. The family greeted friends Wednesday, January 10 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3110 17 Mile Road, Cedar Springs. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m. at church. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Interment St. Margaret’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Paul II Capital Campaign.

JEAN L. SPANIOLO


Jean L. Spaniolo 52 of Cedar Springs, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus. Jean was born July 19, 1965 in New York, New York the daughter of Denzil and Monica (Squires) Peiris. She was the cheer coach at Cedar Springs High School for many years. She had a passion for cooking and catering and loved to travel. She enjoyed her family and friends and put others needs ahead of her own. Surviving are her husband, Thomas; children, Andrea Caperon, Joshua Plude; granddaughters, Julia and Alexa Caperon; mother, Monica Hill; sister, Laureen Peiris; mother-in-law, Alice Spaniolo; brothers and sisters-in-law, John Spaniolo, Chris Spaniolo, Mark Ravell, Jean Cullimore, Jill Spaniolo, Anne Havens; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Denzil Peiris; stepfather, John Hill; father-in-law, Louis Spaniolo; sister-in-law, Gail Ravell. The family greeted friends Sunday, December 31 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Rev. Fr. Lam Le officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation.

James J. Patin 67 of Sand Lake, died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Jim was born March 29, 1950 in Cedar Springs, Michigan the son of Joseph and Ruth (Horter) Patin. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and had worked at Knape & Vogt for 41 years retiring 2013. He was a member of the Wolverine Skyhawks and enjoyed taking motorcycle trips. Surviving are his wife, Sandra; children, Melissa Patin, Jim (April) Patin, Gina (Craig) Dillon, Matt Patin, Becky (Rob) Baker, Jill Patin, Collin (Michelle) Patin; 20 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Maureen) Patin; sisters, Catherine Patin, Marie Patin, Patricia Patin, Gerri (Ralph) VanOcker, RoseAnn Patin; mother-in-law, Helen Beebe; many nieces and nephews and his dog, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark. The family greeted friends Tuesday at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Carl R. Straub, 72, of Cedar Springs, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his home. Carl was born April 28, 1944 in Granada, Mississippi, the son of Herman and Marjorie (Egner) Straub. He graduated from Union High School in 1962. He then joined the Air Force serving from 1963-69. He settled in Cedar Springs in 1977 near the Egner Family Farm. Carl was a simple, stubborn man. He enjoyed his cars, guns, Gunsmoke reruns and spending time with his grandkids. He was one of a kind! Surviving are his wife, Marjorie (Race) whom he married on Feb. 27, 1965; sons, Carl Straub & Brynadette Powell, Richard & Carolyn Straub; grandchildren, Adrianna, Brooklyn, Caroline and Blake; brothers, William & Lenora Nawara, John Nawara; sister, JoAnne & Brian Ellis; brothers-in-law, Gordon & Shirley Race, Kenneth & Yvonne Race; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 11:00 am at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Private interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs.

David L. Wallace

He graduated from Kent City High School in 1995 and had worked at Federal Mogul. He enjoyed working on vehicles, vegetable gardening and deer hunting. Surviving are his wife, Faye whom he married on July 12, 2003; children, David, Ethan and Leah; father, Dale Wallace; sister, Carolyn (Rich) Straub; brother, Bryan (Jodi) Wallace; nieces and nephews, Adrianna, Brooklyn, Caroline, Blake, Megan, Bryce and Emily. He was preceded in death by his mother. The family greeted friends Tuesday at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services were held Wednesday 10:30 am. Rev. Fr. Lam Le officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
