Just spreading the love for Kindness month with some very sweet 1st graders. “We just really care about each other” was the quote that inspired the student-initiated group hug! Also our secondary students chose to spread notes of kindness around our school. We have challenged all our students to do at least one random act of kindness this month.

April Stevens, Principal
Students are taking a step in the right direction by performing random acts of kindness at Red Hawk. Names of the students caught in the act are written on “shoes” and placed around the perimeter of the hallways. Currently, there are over 400 shoes walking along the Red Hawk walls. Teachers (and even our principal!) are stepping up by wearing the red Converse shoes on Early Release days.

Campus Kids, the Before and After School Program, explored their senses on a recent snow day with many fun, ooey, gooey activities!!! Sensory tubs were set up so we could have a lot of messy fun!! We made tie-dye pictures with shaving cream and liquid watercolor paints and then played in the shaving cream, made ooblick out of cornstarch and water, and had a great time in the clean mud made out of Ivory Soap!! The fantastic afternoon was enjoyed by everyone. We can’t wait to do it again!
We are also doing “Random Acts of Kindness” throughout the month! We have had discussions about helping others and about being nice at home and at school. When a child does an “act of kindness”, they write it on a plastic flower and add it to our “Garden of Kindness” on the wall. Our Garden grows everyday with many kind acts!
One of the many after school activities is called “Everyone Reads”. In this program, an older child from Beach or Cedar View is paired up with a child from Cedar Trails, and they read books together. The older children encourage the younger children to read out loud, and they help them with the words. It has been great to see the interactions!
Summer is (hopefully!) right around the corner, and Campus Kids will be hosting a Summer Camp for all who are interested. We will be doing lots of fun, creative, and educational activities every day of the week. These may include gardening, sports, music, arts and crafts, tutoring assistance in various subjects, sensory fun, computer use, experiments, a walking/running club, etc. We also are looking forward to several field trips throughout the summer.
The cost of Summer Camp is $27 a day or $125 a week (for 5 days). There is a $10 a day discount for the second child if attending 4 to 5 days a week. Campus Kids Summer Camp will be closed June 30 through July 4. If you are interested in signing your child up for Summer Camp, please call Teresea Schlump, Child Care Director at (616) 696-1716 for more information.
