Post travels to Israel

The Post recently traveled to the holy land of Israel with Rachel (Reed) Hunt and her husband, Joshua, of Martin. The couple spent five days on the escorted tour. They stayed in Tel Aviv, and in Ginosar, near Tiberius, on the Sea of Galilee.

They visited quite a few sites, including Pzfat, a city well known for art, and they went to a couple of art galleries there; they toured the Golan Heights, which used to belong to Syria; visited the the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount; visited Capernaum, where they saw the ruins of the Apostle Peter’s house and the synagogue next door where Jesus taught; and in Caesarea they saw the ruins of Herod’s palace and visited a winery.

In Jerusalem they visited the Holocaust museum and visited an Israeli museum where they saw the Dead Sea Scrolls. They toured the old city section of Jerusalem, where they saw the tomb of Schindler; visited the supposed site of King David’s tomb; visited the upper room where the last supper allegedly occurred before Jesus’ death; visited the Wailing Wall; and walked the Via De La Rosa which ended at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. On their last day they floated in the Dead Sea, after covering themselves in a sticky muck, which washed off in the water, but left their skin feeling soft and smooth. They also visited Masada.

“One of our favorite things was going to Masada,” said Rachel. “But it really was enjoyable seeing all the sites and learning about the history with a group of people.”

Thanks so much, Rachel and Josh, for taking us with you!

The Post travels to Greece

Rachel and Josh Hunt on the island of Hydra, in Greece.

The Post recently went on an adventure to explore ancient Greece, with Rachel and Josh Hunt.

“We started off in Athens with a walking tour of the city, and then explored the Acropolis,” said Rachel. “We then traveled to Olympia to see the birthplace of the Olympic Games and the ruins at Mycenae. Next we traveled to Delphi and toured the ruins on the slopes of Mount Parnassos.”

Delphi is the site of the 4th-century-B.C. Temple of Apollo, once home to a legendary oracle. This extensive mountainside archaeological complex contains the remains of the sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia, as well as an ancient stadium and theater.

She said they concluded the trip with a traditional Greek feast and a day cruise to Hydra, Poros, and Aegina islands.

Thank you, Rachel and Josh, for taking us with you!

N-Post-travels-Traverse-City-Reed

The Post went on a wine tasting tour in Traverse City over Mother’s Day weekend. Judy Reed, of Cedar Springs, was treated to the weekend as a Mother’s Day present from her children, Rachel Hunt, Jessica Williams, and Steven Reed. The four visited several wineries on both the Old Mission Peninsula and the Leelanau Peninsula, tasted all things cherry at Cherry Republic, and enjoyed the beautiful scenery surrounding Traverse City and the bay.

Thanks to the Reed family for taking us with you!

If you are going on a trip, take a Post with you, snap a photo, and send it to us, along with some info about your trip. Be sure to include your contact info in case we have a question. Send your Post travels stories and photos to news@cedarspringspost.com.

The Post goes to Ireland

N-Post-goes-to-Ireland2Rachel (Reed) Hunt and her husband Josh recently traveled across the Republic of Ireland and took the Post with them on their adventure in the Emerald Isle.  The couple flew into Dublin, and traveled cross country to visit many historic sites, including the ruins of medieval castles, the Cliffs of Moher, and they even kissed the Blarney Stone! (Which is no small feat since you have to do it upside down.) Rachel said driving on their narrow roads without shoulders was one of the hardest things to get used to. And it was especially tricky driving through the Gap of Dunloe, a narrow winding mountain pass, with only room enough for one vehicle on the road. But the two had a great time, and we thank you for taking us with you to Ireland!
