Pancake Breakfast to Support Velzy Park


How does a plate of pancakes, sausage and eggs sound for breakfast?  Grab the family because breakfast’s up!  Solon Township/Vezly Park is hosting their second annual  Pancake Breakfast this Saturday, May 11 from 9:00am until 11:00am. at the Township Hall, 15185 Algoma Ave.  Breakfast includes the aforementioned as well as juice and coffee.  The meal is $6.00 per person with children under three free.  The breakfast runs in conjunction with Solon’s cleanup for Solon residents but is open to everyone.  All proceeds go towards funding the Vezly Park project.

The restroom project is underway with groundbreaking to begin soon.  Join your friends and family and check out the plans for the new restroom and walk the trail.  Funding for the project has been primarily provided though the support of local businesses and residents who stepped up to support the park.  Short term future projects include a playground and connection to the North Country Trail.  The park is open to everyone from dawn until dusk.  For more information or to support the park, contact Solon Township at 616-696-1718. LIONS Club pancake breakfast benefit


Cedar Springs Lions Club presents a $158.00 benefit check to the Howard Christensen Nature Center

What’s better than a nice, hot breakfast prepared for you on a Saturday morning? How about a nice hot breakfast that also benefits nonprofit groups in the community? The Cedar Springs LIONS Club pancake breakfasts do just that. Recent breakfasts have benefited both the Cub Scouts and Howard Christensen Nature Center. There is one more breakfast to attend this spring, and this one will benefit the Cedar Springs Equestrian Team.

Cedar Springs Lions Club presents a $170.00 benefit check to the Cub Scouts Pack 3222.

The next Cedar Springs LIONS Club pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, 140 S. Main St, Cedar Springs. 

Enjoy a hearty breakfast of all you can eat pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, juice, and coffee, for $8 for adults, and $25 for a family (two adults and two children under age 12). Two dollars of each meal will be contributed to the team. Ticket or flyer must be presented for each person eating.

Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser

Jan. 12: Help support Makhella’s Service Dog journey. Kayla has recently been diagnosed with a muscle deficiency in her eyes leaving her with low vision and near legally blind which causes difficulty in simple activities of daily living. Along with Kayla’s cognitive impairment from a tragic birth causes her to struggle with daily activities. As a vibrant 20 year old, Kayla is trying to be as independent as possible in her journey through adulthood. Doctors and Therapist both have suggested a Service Dog. So her journey begins… please support her journey by coming to Big Boy of Cedar Springs for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Friday, January 12, 5pm to 8pm. $12 per adult, $10 per child. Jan. 14:  2nd Chance will be having Cowboy Church Sunday, January 14th at 6:00 pm. It will be at 2nd Chance School at 810 17 Mile Road, Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile Road and Olin Lakes Road). Music and Ministry will be shared by the group, Stroll Over Heaven, who will share their musical talent and the gospel. Invite your family and friends. Owl Walk at HCNC

Jan. 26: “Twit twoo” It’s time for our yearly Owl Walk! Local naturalist and expert Greg Swanson is back to introduce you to owl biology! Apr. 15: An Easter Egg-Stravaganza, a celebration for children will be held on Saturday, April 15th at the Solon Center Wesleyan Church. There’ll be hot dogs, candy, and an Easter Egg Hunt with 4,000 candy filled Easter Eggs! On display will be a Solon Township fire truck, Michigan State & Kent County Sheriff police cruisers and some hot rods. Registration begins at 11 am, and egg hunts will take place for all children 10 years and under beginning at Noon. Two bikes donated by Meijer will be given as grand prizes!! Explore MCC’s Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails

Montcalm Community College’s Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails are open to the public from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year. There is no charge to visit these beautiful trails winding through forests, grasslands and wetlands. More than four miles of trails are marked with numbered trail posts and maps are available at most major trail heads. Players perform at the Kent “Zombies, Werewolves and Aliens, oh my!”

Mar. 24-26: The Cedar Springs Community Players will be presenting three Sci-Fi Fantasy comedy one-act plays on March 24, 25, and 26 at the Kent Theatre. “Zombies, Werewolves and Aliens, oh my!” kicks off the 2017 fantasy-themed season. The three short comedies are set in the Old West, modern-day suburbia, and outer space in the future and feature hilarious encounters with an assortment of monsters and aliens. Good Friday Walk and Remember 

Mar. 25: Walk to each of the Sand Lake Village Churches and listen to the thoughts of characters that experienced the crucifixion first hand. Friday, March 25th from noon to 1:30 pm. Our walk begins at Resurrection Lutheran Church (just south of town on Northland Dr.), with stops at the Full Gospel Church, Downtown Pavilion, Mary Queen of Apostles, and the United Methodist Church. Learn to Play the Ukulele

Mar. 30: During this hour and a half workshop you will learn the basics of playing the Ukulele. This fun and relaxed program will teach you the basic chords, rhythm and strumming you’ll need to play a few songs by the end of the workshop. Our instructor, Dean Wiers-Windemuller of Southtown Guitar will lead the hands-on workshop. Players of all levels are welcome and no prior experience is necessary. Pre-registration is required. Blood Drive for Lizzie August

Mar. 10: Donate blood in honor of Elizabeth August. Lizzie was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 4 in 2009 and during her treatments she has received 13 red blood and 29 platelet transfusions along with 2 bone marrow transplants. She is now 11 and in remission. There are so many more who need our help. Come donate blood to honor her journey and the journeys of all the young children fighting their own battles. Attendees will vote for their favorite quilts in each of the two categories, general and antique ( at least 50 years old). Admission is $2 per person and in addition to the quilt show there will be trunk shows for Red Button Quilt Co. and Blueberry Backroads, a silent auction, a quilting garage sale and a raffle quilt. Good Friday Walk and Remember

Mar. 25: Walk to each of the Sand Lake Village Churches and listen to the thoughts of characters that experienced the crucifixion first hand. Friday, March 25th from noon to 1:30 pm. Our walk begins at Resurrection Lutheran Church (just south of town on Northland Dr.), with stops at the Full Gospel Church, Downtown Pavilion, Mary Queen of Apostles, and the United Methodist Church. HCNC Easter Egg Hunt w/Brunch

Mar. 26: Howard Christensen Nature Center will hold it’s 6th Annual Easter Egg Hunt with Brunch on Saturday, March 26th. Brunch will be served from noon to 2 pm. CS Community Players Mystery Trivia

Mar. 30: The Cedar Springs Community Players are pleased to announce “Murder at the Kent”, a collection of three one act plays which will be performed at the Kent Theatre on March 30th, 31st, and April 1st.  The plays are Sorry, Wrong Number, Heat Lightning, and The Man who Died Twice.  These short, thrilling plays will delight the mystery lovers and send shivers down the spines of the audience.  And since every good mystery story requires some anticipation, the Players have devised a series of mystery themed trivia to build up the suspense before opening night.  These questions will appear in The Cedar Springs Post each week in the month before the production, starting on March 3rd.  Solve the riddles and bring your answers to one of the performances at the Kent Theatre to be entered to win prizes that night. #10p

Women’s Day Retreat

Feb. 6: Need to get away from it all? A day away just for women will be held at the beautiful Loon’s Nest Banquet Center at Whitefish Lake on Saturday, February 6th from 9 am – 4 pm. Registration is at 8:30 am. The event called “G.R.O.W. – the Godly Rise of Women” is designed to encourage growth in women’s relationships, not only with God, but with spouses, family and personal friendships as well. Tickets are $35 which includes a delicious lunch, all day snacks and beverages, guest speaker Gail Ramesh the originator or the retreat ministry called Unveiled, and materials for special (hands on) breakout sessions.
