Cheer teams takes second in conference

The Red Hawk Competitive Cheer Team had another eventful week. On Wednesday, February 8, the Lady Red Hawks hosted the O-K Blue Conference Finals. The Red Hawks fought hard but fell short of a Conference Title taking second place behind Comstock Park. During the first round of competition the Lady hawks came out strong, leaving only a 5-point margin between them and Comstock Park. The second round is where the Red Hawks lost their high point standing due to some errors that cost them deductions that would make it difficult to rebound from in the 3rd round. The third round they still came out with their heads held high and ready to show what they had, scoring above Comstock Park in the round, but still unable to recover from the mistakes made earlier and landing them the 2nd place finish.

“We are still very proud of our girls and excited to see what they will bring to districts,” said a spectator. “The girls have continued to improve and even though they have had set backs, still come out strong.”

The Lady Red Hawks also traveled to the Delta Plex on Saturday, February 11, where they participated in a PR Cheer Tournament, to help familiarize the team with the complex and scoring that they may face if able to attend a state tournament.  The Lady Hawks faced a lot of new competition there that they had not seen yet this year—many of them teams they will face at the regional level, if they place at districts. The Red Hawks did what they could but were only able to place 9th out of the 13 teams in the Division 2 seatings.

“It was a great experience to have,” said Lauren Oehme, a cheerleader on the team. “We were all a little nervous because of the size of the building and, for many, it was their first time there and it was a little overwhelming.”

The Lady Red Hawks will host the District competition on Saturday Feb. 18, at the Cedar Springs High School.  Come and Cheer the Lady Red Hawks on as they attempt to advance out of districts to the regional competition.
