Man injured in Montcalm crash


Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a two-car crash on Greenville Road south of Wise Road at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2017.

The investigation revealed that William Mason, age 46 from Belding, was leaving the parking lot of a local business in his blue 1994 Honda Accord and pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by Lyle Joslyn, age 48 from Ionia.

Mason’s vehicle was struck in the driver’s door by Joslyn’s black 2003 GMC pickup. Mason had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life due to the damaged sustained to the vehicle.

Mason was transported to Spectrum in Grand Rapids for serious injuries. Mason’s passenger, John Dulea age 54, from Greenville, was not injured. Joslyn was not injured in the crash.

Police said seat belts were used and airbags deployed during the crash. There are no known factors contributing to the crash and it is not known why Mason pulled into the path of Joslyn. Portions of Greenville Road had to be closed for approximately one-half hour during the extrication and clean up. The crash remains under investigation.

Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services and the Greenville Department of Public Safety fire units assisted at the scene.

Police departments to host Citizens’ Academy  


 

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) and Michigan State Police (MSP) Lakeview Post is pleased to announce a Citizens’ Academy, which will start September 19, 2017 and end November 14, 2017. Attendees will meet from 6pm – 8pm every Tuesday night. The eight week academy will give citizens the opportunity to become familiar with the mission and operation of the MCSD and MSP, understand the procedures deputies and troopers follow, increase their awareness of law enforcement’s role in the community, and get to know personnel at the MCSD and Lakeview Post.

The eight week academy will meet at Montcalm Community College’s Sidney Campus. A graduation ceremony will be held on November 14, 2017 at 7:00pm. Howard City Police help deliver baby


The Howard City Police Department helped deliver a baby on December 28, at approximately 1:21 p.m.

An ambulance and rescue unit 29 of Howard City were responding to a report of a woman with back pain. Soon after the arrival of the rescue unit, a radio call asking for additional assistance was made because the woman was actually in labor.

Howard City Police and a unit from the Montcalm County Sheriffs Department arrived at the home in the 500 block of Juniper Street and assisted in the delivery a healthy baby girl to the 19-year-old mother.

Both mother and baby were transported to the hospital and are doing fine.
