There is a brand new addition to the Montcalm County Fairgrounds. This new building was the result of a generous anonymous donation and the hard work done by members of Montcalm County Horse Leaders. The structures main purpose will be to serve as an escape from the weather, as well as hosting events. The pavilion is handicap accessible and provides electrical outlets to fairground patrons. Along with these features, the pavilion will also provide a shaded area to view events, as well as tables for eating. It is expected to be a highly beneficial addition to the fairgrounds.
“This is just one example of what has been achieved on the fairgrounds through volunteer efforts. The Montcalm County Horse Leaders should be commended for the dedication and pride they have displayed through their efforts on the fairgrounds,” said a spokesperson for the Montcalm County Fair Association.

The Cedar Springs Equestrian Team competed in two district meets last weekend. From L-R is Bayley Wolfe, Kylie Piatt and Assistant Coach Danni Naffziger.
The Cedar Springs High School Equestrian Team had their first two District meets at the Montcalm County Fairgrounds this past weekend, September 7-8. Although the team is the only “A” Division team, they put forth an impressive effort and ended with many top placings.
Junior Bayley Wolfe led the team with 73 points, with seniors Jessica Kriekaard and Alexis Stevens not far behind. Every rider on the team placed in multiple events.
Coach Emily Ream commented on the team’s success. “I was very impressed with how well everyone pulled together and supported one another this past weekend. There were several riders who tried new events, some who are pretty new to showing that stepped up and helped the team, and others that are very seasoned riders that put in solid performances. I’m very proud of all of them.”
The third District meet is Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Montcalm Co. Fairgrounds. Anyone is welcome to spectate and there is no admission fee. Go Red Hawks!
