Evelyn J. Maxson 88 of Cedar Springs, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Metron of Cedar Springs. Evelyn was born January 23, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois the daughter of Ellsworth and Florence (Lee) Norton. She was a longtime Cedar Springs resident and had worked at several area restaurants including the A&W Drive-In and baking pies for many years at Kelly’s. She enjoyed listening to music, ice cream and watching traffic go by. She loved her family and grandchildren and hosting family gatherings at holidays and during the Red Flannel Festival. Surviving are her children, Steve (Mary) Maxson, Randy (Robin) Maxson, Dave Maxson, Pat Bartaway, Mike Maxson; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Cindy Maxson; brother, Frank Norton; sister, Marilyn Tennant. The Maxson family would like to thank the staff at Metron of Cedar Springs and Hospice of Michigan for their care. The family greeted friends Tuesday, June 12 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service was held Wednesday. Pastor Tim Mauriello officiating. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to WGVU Public Television and Radio.

Harold B. “Dusty” Maxson

Mr. Harold B. “Dusty” Maxson, age 84 years of Fremont, passed away on Thursday evening, February 24, 2011.  He was born on February 23, 1927 in Lowell, Michigan to Russell & Rosalie Maxson.  He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, and he was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.  Dusty was a retired math teacher from Cedar Springs High School, where he had also been a coach and athletic director. After his retirement, he continued to coach tennis at Fremont High School and to develop youth tennis in the Fremont area.  He was preceded in death by his second wife, Hazel; by 3 brothers: Jack, Morris, & Danny Maxson; and by 1 sister, Becky Curtis.  Survivors include 5 children:  Steve (Mary) Maxson of Sand Lake, Randy (Robin) Maxson of Holland, Dave (Cindy) Maxson of Arizona, Patty Bartaway of Grand Rapids, Mike Maxson of Cedar Springs; 11 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren; 3 brothers:  Kay (Marilyn) Maxson, Dave (Julie) Maxson, Tom (Paulette) Maxson; and 2 sisters, Betsy Moser & Darlene (Al) Dacey.  There was a time of visiting with the family at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home on Monday, February 28, 2011.  There will be no Funeral Service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to YES Tennis Association of Fremont.  You may sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.comArrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc., 637 E.
