Senior Katie Weiler was the lone member of the girl’s track team to qualify for the MHSAA Division 2 State Final Meet, which was held last weekend. On Saturday June 1, at Forest Hills Eastern High School, Katie ended her high school track career, with an eighth place finish, in the 3200-meter run, with a time of 11:22.38. Katie earned all state honors and academic all state honors with her performance at the state meet.
Over her four years career she earned all conference four times, three individual conference championships, one relay conference championship, state qualifier four times, all state three times, academic all state two times and was key contributor to the teams 2012 OK Blue Conference Championship.
Katie will continue her education and running career this fall in Mt. Pleasant at the University of Central Michigan.

The Cedar Springs Red Hawks girl’s track team hosted the first OK Bronze Conference track meet last weekend. The team scored 68 points and placed fourth in the meet. The final overall standings in the OK Bronze was fourth out of the six teams. Forest Hills Eastern won the conference meet and was first in the conference overall.
Senior Katie Weiler was the only event winner for the Red Hawks and earned all conference honors by winning the 3200-meter run. Katie also placed second in the 1600 run and teamed up with Allie Veltkamp, Ellie Ovokaitys and Maddie Pekrul to place second in the 3200 meter relay. Sophomore Marissa Oakes also earned all conference. Marissa placed 4th in the long jump, 6th in the 100 meter hurdles and was a member of the third place 400 meter relay and fifth place 800 meter relay team.

On Saturday June 2, sisters Kenzie and Katie Weiler placed in the top 8 in the 3200-meter run to earn all state honors. Kenzie, a freshman, place third, with a time of 10:52.88. Katie, a junior, placed seventh, with a personal best time of 11:04.54. Katie will also earn Academic All-State honors for her finish at the meet and her 4.0 grade point.
Sophomore Aly Hamilton advanced to the semi finals in the 100-meter dash and placed ninth overall in the event. The 400-meter relay team of Rieley Hondalus, Marissa Oakes, Abby VanDusen and Aly Hamilton placed 11th with a time of 51.21.
The team had an outstanding year, winning the OK Blue Conference for the first time in school history. They broke five school records and many grade level records. Congratulations to all of the team members for a memorable season.
