Dale G. Anderson


C-OBIT-andersonDale G. Anderson, 62 of Cedar Springs, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle. Dale was born July 27, 1953 in Chicago, IL the son of Richard and Marion (Pyne) Anderson. He was a truss assembler for 43 years. Dale was a stubborn, rough neck, loving and caring biker. He so loved his granddaughters that he had their names tattooed on his arm. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Elaine; daughter, Lacey (Nathan) Wright; grandchildren, Kayda, Avalon, Harlynn; mother, Marion Anderson; brother, Raymond Anderson; sister-in-law, Donna (Robert) Greenland; five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and parents-in-law. A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, July 10 at 1 pm at Morley Park, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Kent County.

SANDRA A. JOHNSON

Sandra A. Johnson, 73, of Cedar Springs, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Sandra was born March 13, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a dedicated employee of CS Manufacturing in the accounting department with 20 years of service. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, which was very important to her. She loved animals, sunshine, enjoyed gardening, and made amazing dill pickles. Surviving are her children, Bob (Paula) Johnson, Tim Johnson and Kathy Kay, Kathy (Ken) Coleman; grandchildren, Ryan Coleman, Kate Coleman, and Logan Armstrong; sisters, Kathy Carlson, and Ricci (Larry) Freeman; two nieces and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Luella Stine; sister, Judy Carlson Alden; infant sister, Nancy Jo. The family greeted friends Sunday, January 24 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home Cedar Springs, where the service was held Monday, January 25. Pastor Robert Eckert officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Kent County or the American Cancer Society.

Marian C. Christian


Marian C. Christian, 80 of Cedar Springs, died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Bishop Hills, Rockford. Mrs. Christian was born June 15, 1934 in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of Peter and Zella (Curtis) Patrick. She and her husband, Robert owned and operated Christian’s Upholstery in Cedar Springs for 20 years. She loved her dog Charlie, enjoyed giving people hugs, and was a member of the Teacup Ladies Group. Surviving are her children, David Christian & Gail Lancaster, Diane & Craig Phipps, Gary & Vicky Christian, Steven & Sherry Christian; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, George (Mitzie) Patrick; sister, Dorothy (Jake) Meyer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2007; and a brother, Peter Patrick, Jr. The family will greet friends Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services will be held Sunday 2:00 pm. Deacon Jim Hessler officiating. Interment Algoma Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Kent County.

New hours for Humane Society


Beginning this week, the Humane Society of Kent County has new hours of operation for the public. The adjustment in hours is to better serve the animals and the public.

They will now be open an extra day each week on Mondays. On Wednesdays they will be open until 4 p.m. They will still offer some hours in the evenings for individuals who are unable to visit during the day.

The new public hours for animal adoptions and animal admitting are listed below. If you need to bring an animal to the Humane Society, stray or owned, please call (616) 453-8900 extension 216 to schedule an appointment. Animal Admitting and owner requested euthanasia is by appointment only. Lost and found and adoption services are on a walk in basis.
