Cedar Springs boys bowling team won their first tournament of the 2013-2014 bowling season at the Fruitport Bowling Invitational.
The seven bowlers consisted of senior Josh Austin, junior Kyle Knarr, sophomores Jacob Cartwright, Blake Fisk, and Jarod Plank, and freshman Dugan Conely, and Trevor Ruark.
After a total pin count of 3592 in 3 regular and 4 Baker games, the team moved on to the semifinals to bowl against 2nd place qualifiers-Muskegon Mona Shores. Josh Austin led his team with a 674 series which qualified him for a 4th place in his division.
Cedar trailed Mona Shores by 5 pins after their first game, but came back strong the 2nd game to defeat Mona Shores. The Cedar boys moved on to face the 4th place qualifiers-Fruitport who had defeated the 1st place qualifiers-Zeeland. Cedar fell behind their first match, but rallied in their second game to defeat the Fruitport team. Cedar took home a 1st place finish and trophy in their division.
Cedar’s next match, for the overall tournament championship, was against Hudsonville Unity Christian. Cedar started out with a 212 game to stay 10 pins ahead of Hudsonville. The Cedar team defeated Hudsonville Unity Christian with a 246 game to seal their 1st place win for the Fruitport Invitational.
“They really came through as a team and supported each other throughout the whole tournament,” said Coach Todd Austin. “I am very proud of these boys and what they accomplished today.”
