Flat River Players present “Cinderella”

The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn this summer with the Flat River Community Players’ production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic, Cinderella. The musical opens at the Greenville Area Community Center on Friday, July 22.

Emily Smith plays Cinderella, a young girl forced into a life of servitude by her coldhearted stepmother (Donita Coughlin) and self-centered stepsisters (Taylor Hedrick and Brittany Jager), who dreams of a better life. Meanwhile, the King and Queen (Greg Stratton and Brenda Jolls) are preparing for a ball in the hopes that their son, Prince Christopher (Jeremiah Souza), will find a suitable bride. After being laughed at by her stepsisters and left behind, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother (Deb Dieckman) appears. Persuaded by Cinderella’s fervor to attend the ball, she bestows upon the girl a beautiful ball gown, golden slippers, and a glittering carriage, but they come with a warning to be home by midnight.

“Cinderella lives in the dream world created by her imagination,” says Director Julie Chapman Jakeway. “The prince lives in reality and really doesn’t even know he dreams until she walks in the door.  The play is truly about helping the prince believe that dreams can come true even though all the elements surrounding him are telling him reality is the only way.”

The FRCP presents Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella at 8:00 p.m. on July 22, 23, 28, 29 and 30, and at 2:00 PM on July 24, at the Greenville Area Community Center.  Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students 18 and under, and $10 for seniors 60 and over.  Call the Players’ box office at (616) 754-8207 for reservations with MasterCard or VISA.  If you prefer, stop by the Community Center weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to purchase tickets in person.  For more information about the Flat River Community Players, visit the website at http://www.frcp.org/.

With great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.  Cinderella is must-see theater for the summer!
