Large eagle spotted in Solon

Jennifer August, of Solon Township, spotted this large eagle near her home last weekend.

When she first saw him, he was sitting on a top of a deer carcass in a field and she could tell he was a big bird. She later returned with her camera, and snapped a photo of him in a nearby tree.

Thanks so much, Jennifer, for sending us your photos!

Eagle standing watch

By Mindy Abbott

By Mindy Abbott

A couple of weeks ago we ran a photo of an eagle on a barn just off Northland Drive. This week, Mindy Abbott gave us another eagle photo—this one up close and personal from her home in Solon Township.

Got to get a good look at a bald eagle today sitting in the rain,” she wrote. “I’ve heard he has been seen in our neighborhood lately.” She took the photo while standing on her front porch.

That’s a great photo, Mindy! Thanks so much for sending it!

If any of you have wildlife photos you’d like to send us, email them to news@cedarspringspost.com, and include some info about the photo, and about yourself. We will run them as space allows.

A kingly bird

N-Eagle

Mary Jo Giaimo sent us this photo of an eagle perched on top of a barn on Northland Drive, between 14 and 15 Mile Roads, on Saturday. Are those also eagles soaring above or some type of hawk? Either way, they are all big birds!

Lunch anyone?

OUT-Eagle1-web

OUT-Eagle2-webOUT-Eagle3-webCherri and Pete Rose, of Solon Township, sent us photos of a bald eagle they spotted near their home. “This bald eagle picked up a rabbit that had been hit by a car and carried it on to Upper Lake to have lunch on Saturday, March 14,” wrote Cherri. “We had seen the dead rabbit in the road earlier in the morning, then saw the eagle fly by our house carrying it. He spent about a half hour eating, then took a long drink from puddles of melted ice. It was awesome to be able to watch him for so long, right in front of our house!” she said.

Thanks so much for sending us your photos!
