Dorothy Jean Smith 84 of Ensley Township, Sand Lake, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Jean was born July 31, 1927 in Ensley Township, Michigan the daughter of Harry and Blanche (Verburg) Frey. She graduated from Blodgett School of Nursing and worked at various hospitals and as the nurse at Croton Daycare Center for 18 years. She was a member of Mary Queen of Apostles Catholic Church and the Order of St. Francis of Poor Clares. Surviving are her husband, Maynard, whom she married on June 30, 1949; children, Steven & D’Anne Smith of Traverse City, Mother Mary Jeannine of Roswell, NM, Teresa Mirandette of Kentwood, Richard Smith of Fremont, Thomas & Suzie Smith of Ann Arbor, Daniel & Christina Smith of Lakeville, MN, Karen & John Willette of Brighton; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Frey, John & Rosemary Frey, Richard & Eleanor Frey, James & Sharon Frey; sisters, Mary Ann Misner, Maxine & Clarence Miller; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alex Mirandette; brothers, Donald Frey and William Frey. The family will receive friends Monday, October 10, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 11:00 am at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Joseph W. Kenshol celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.
