WMP wrestlers finish in top places

West Michigan Pursuit had another busy weekend of wrestling. 62 lb Drew Moro traveled to Minnesota for the Gopher State Nationals Midwest Tour. Drew finished 5th Place in the First and Second Grade division.

58 lb Kellen Weckesser entered the Chippewa Hills tournament. Kellen finished 2nd in the 7/8 age group.

WMP had 19 grapplers enter the Greenville Tournament and placed 17 in the top four. 80 lb Isa Starr finished 4th Place in the 9/10 age group. Finishing in third was 80 lb Blake Hammer, 11/12 Novice age group; 55/59 lb Mason Hendrick, 9/10 age group; 52/55 lb Kaleb Pautke, 7/8 age group; 80 lb Isaiah Smith, 9/10 age group and 158 lb Maston Wood, 11/12 age group. In second place was 67 lb Chayson Eberspeaker, 7/8 age group and 75 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 9/10 age group. Sostenes battled hard. He lost his first match of the day and battled back with a record of 5-1 to finish with a true second.

Champions of the day were 64 lb Quinten Cassiday, 7/8 age group; 65/75 lb Carter Castillo, 11/12 age group; 145/155 lb Aaiden Dowdell, 13/15 age group; 63 lb Luke Egan, 9/10 age group; 67 lb Tyler Parmeter, 7/8 age group, 80 lb Blake Peasley, 9/10 age group; 58/61 lb Selina Stalker, 4/6 age group; 55/59 lb Josh Vasquez, 9/10 age group and 49 lb Blake Werkema, 4/6 age group.

“As we get closer to Regionals, we are starting to peak at the right time and their confidence grows each week. These kids are learning to focus on their own in preparation of their matches,” said head Coach Dave Andrus.

WMP wrestlers win trophies, medals

West Michigan Pursuit has had a busy schedule of wrestling. Drew Moro traveled to Missouri for the Battle on the Eve, December 31. He competed in the 8 and under age group/60 lb weight class. Drew went undefeated, 4-0 and took the Championship Title.

Friday, January 6, seven grapplers traveled to Indiana for the Great Lakes Championship. Competitors from California to Pennsylvania came to compete in this tough tournament. 14U, 143 lb Aaiden Dowdell finished 7thPlace; 10U, 58 lb Josh Vasquez, finished 8th Place, and 80 lb Blake Peasley finished 7th Place; 8U, 58 lb Drew Moro finished 6th Place, and 72 lb Tyler Parmeter finished 8th Place.

Sunday, January 8, the team split to compete at Grandville, Big Rapids and Otsego. Blake Peasley entered the MYWAY Greights tournament in Otsego. He went undefeated, 4-0 taking the Championship Title in the 80 lb wt class/ 9/10 age group.

WMP entered 6 grapplers at the Big Rapids trophy tournament. The 2 foot tall trophies attracted several tough competitors. 52 lb Kaleb Pautke took 3rd Place in the 9/10 age group. Taking home Championship titles were 64 lb Quinten Cassiday, 7/8 age group; 67 lb Chayson Eberspeaker, 7/8 age group; 55 lb Kellen Weckesser, 7/8 age group, and 49 lb Blake Werkema, 4/6 age group.

The West Region tournament was held at Grandville where eight WMP grapplers entered to compete. 55/59 lb Landon Foss, 9/10 age group and 55 lb Aaiden Vasquez, 7/8 age group finished 2nd Place. Those taking home Championship titles included 63 lb Luke Egan, 9/10 age group; 61/64 lb Drew Moro, 7/8 age group; 67/72 lb Tyler Parmeter, 7/8 age group; 71 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 9/10 age group and 55/59 lb Josh Vasquez, 9/10 age group.

“After a difficult start to the weekend with Great Lakes Nationals, I was very impressed how they refocused and dominated on Sunday,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

West Michigan Pursuit traveled to Grand Valley State University this past weekend. WMP entered 21 grapplers and placed 16 in the top four. We have two Champions who remain undefeated this season, Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group and Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group. Out of 68 battles, WMP claimed 44 victories. Individual results are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include 95 lb Gage Bowen, 9/10 age group; 58/61 lb Logan Galinis, 6 & under age group and 46 lb Jacob Howard, 6 & under age group.

3rd Place Medalists include 130 lb Isaac Casey, 9/10 age group; 55/59 lb Josh Vasquez, 9/10 age group and 90/95 lb Dylan Whidden, 13/14 age group.

2nd Place Medalists include 55/59 lb Michael Cannon, 9/10 age group and 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 7/8 age group.

Champions are 55 lb Quinten Cassiday, 7/8 age group; 58/61 lb Chayson Eberspeaker, 6 & under age group; 58/61 lb Luke Egan, 7/8 age group; 43/49 lb Jayden Marcano-Cruz, 7/8 age group; 72/77 lb Blake Peasley, 7/8 age group, 52 lb Aiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group; 52 lb Kellen Weckesser, 7/8 age group and 126/133 lb Maston Wood, 11/12 age group.

Each week these kids continue to impress with their own determination to be the best they can be. They truly are the Pursuit of Champions,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

WMP claims 14 championship titles

Last weekend West Michigan Pursuit traveled to compete at Big Rapids in the North Region for the trophies offered, Grand Haven in the West Region and the Salina Open in Oklahoma. WMP had 29 grapplers competing, placing 26 in the top four and claiming 14 championship titles.

Placements are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include 71 lb Casey Eberspeaker, 9/10 age group; 100 lb David Erxleben, 13/14 age group; 58 lb Logan Galinis in the 6 & under age group; 59 lb Kameron Ogden in the 9/10 age group and 52 lb Kellen Weckesser in the 7/8 age group.

3rd Place Medalist include 95 lb Gage Bowen in the 9/10 age group; 130 lb Isaac Casey in the 9/10 age group; 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes and 95 lb Dylan Whidden in the 13/14 age group.

2nd Place Medalist include 85 lb Joshua Howard in the 9/10 age group; 80/85 lb Kaden Schmid in the 11/12 age group and 52 lb Aaiden Vasquez in the 6 & under age group.

Champions are 80 lb Logan Bennett (Grand Haven) in the 9/10 age group; 59 lb Michael Cannon in the 9/10 age group; 80/85 Xavier Contreras in the 11/12 age group; 58 lb Chayson Eberspeaker in the 6 & under age group; 58 lb Luke Egan in the 7/8 age group; 85/90 lb Brocke Fisher in the 13/14 age group; 55 lb Landon Foss in the 7/8 age group; 46 lb Jacob Howard in the 6 & under age group; 49 lb Jayden Marcano-Cruz in the 7/8 age group; Andrew Moro (Salina Open Oklahoma) in Division One; 72 lb Blake Peasley in the 7/8 age group; 145 lb Zak Schmid in the 13/14 age group; 55 lb Joshua Vasquez in the 9/10 age group and 158 lb Maston Wood in the 11/12 age group. Special recognition goes to Chayson Eberspeaker and Luke Egan, who remain undefeated this season, and to Andrew Moro, who was recognized as Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

“Watching them build momentum each week is exciting.  Their passion and drive is adding fuel to their levels of confidence. I am thankful for my athletes and the support of their parents,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.
