City garden to get a makeover

The Cedar Springs Garden Club, with the help and approval of the City, has plans to redo the garden at the southwest corner of Cherry and First Street, across from the Post Office.

“We have a new garden plan designed by Kristin at Shaner Avenue Nursery,” explained Pat Moore, of the Cedar Springs Garden Club. “This is designed to be more maintenance free than the current garden, with a walking path and sitting areas.”

On Saturday, October 21, they are going to be removing perennial plants and a few shrubs that they won’t need and offering them to the public for a donation. Some of the plants that will be available are Black-eyed Susan; Purple Cone flower; Phlox; Iris; Daylily; Columbine; Gooseneck Loosestrife; Yucca; Lilac; Rose of Sharon; Trioba (Brown-eyed Susan); and Poppies. Anyone interested can stop by the garden between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Garden club members will be there to identify the plants, describe their growing requirements and help dig them out. Please bring containers or large bags to take them home in. Proceeds will go towards the construction of the new garden. Come meet the garden club members and learn how you can get involved in the club. If you have any questions please call Sandy (696-8660) or Pat (696-9591).
