Jerry Lynn Avery


c-obit-averyJerry Lynn Avery, 77 of Cedar Springs went into the loving arms of his Savior on Thursday, November 17, 2016 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 19, 1939 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Donald and Caroline (Townes) Avery. Jerry had a thirty four year career as a police officer, serving in the Kent County Sheriff’s Department and before that, the Cedar Springs Police Department.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, flying, bicycling and time with his grandkids. He was a member of Courtland-Oakfield United Methodist Church and the Northwest Soaring Club of Frankfort where he served as an instructor.  He was also a member of the Bad Bikers Bicycle Club, where he was known as the “Baddest Biker”. Surviving are his wife, Peggy (Beals) whom he married on November 12, 1957; sons, Mike (Denise) Avery, Tim (Kim) Avery; grandchildren, Sarah (Jordan) Brygal, James (Jessica) Edwards, Andy Avery, Jessica Martin, Jamie Jeffries III, Samantha Avery, Shelby Avery; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Leon (Janet) Avery. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joe (Jean) Avery, David Avery; sister, Madeline (Stan) Piasecki. The family will greet friends Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be held Monday, Nov. 21 at Courtland-Oakfield United Methodist Church. Pastors Bill Johnson and Chuck Smith officiating. Interment Courtland Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Faith Hospice.

EDITH E. TISDEL

Edith E. Tisdel, 99, of Cedar Springs, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Porter Hills. Mrs. Tisdel was born May 7, 1916 in Cedar Springs, Michigan, the daughter of Lavern and Muriel (Lincoln) Hatch. She had been a member of the East Nelson United Methodist Church, the Spencer Mills Ladies Aid and a lifetime member of the Eastern Stars. She enjoyed making cakes for all family events, homemade bread and scubbies and going to the lake in the summer. Surviving are her daughters, Shirley (Jerry) Cadaret, Sharon (Don) Hopwood; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Wayne Tisdel in 1999; brother, Matthew Hatch and a great grandson. The family greeted friends Friday, March 18 from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service was held Saturday at 2:00 pm. Pastors Herb VanderBilt and Chuck Smith officiating. Interment East Nelson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to East Nelson United Methodist Church.

M. MAXINE KORCAL


M. Maxine Korcal 94 of Bad Axe, formerly of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Bad Axe. Maxine was born July 21, 1919 in Cedar Springs, Michigan the daughter of Clair and Myrtie (Peterson) Beach. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and adored her family. Surviving are her daughter, Pat (Bart) Hartson; son-in-law, Vernon Rounds; grandchildren, Tim (Jody) Hartson, Todd Hartson, Mike (Leslie) Rounds, Mindy (Scott) Rambo; great grandchildren, Brady, Caitlin, Ashlin, Jerry, Brian, Courtney, Carly, Michael, Melissa, Tyler; great great grandsons, Louis and Dylan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund and a daughter, Julie Rounds. The family will greet friends Thursday, June 5 from 12 noon until time of service at 1:00 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Chuck Smith officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs.
