BARBARA JEAN HARTLINE


 

Barbara Jean Hartline, age 74, formerly of Cedar Springs, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at home under the loving care of her family, friends, and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Bert O. & Anna Marie (Petersen) Chambers, she was born on April 15, 1943 in Grand Rapids. On November 10, 1967 she married Alvin Henry Hartline, Jr. and together they raised two children. Barbara also worked outside the home for the State of Michigan as a Claims Examiner for the Michigan Employment Security Office for 33 years, retiring in 1995 with plans of traveling, trips to the casino and more. She loved to play in her garden and take care of her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert & Ann Chambers; her husband, Alvin Hartline, Jr.; and a brother, John Chambers. Surviving are two daughters, Shelly & Matt Porter of Morley and Susan & Tim Cole of Sand Lake; her grandchildren, Jamie (Jeremy) Bockheim, Jessica (Cody) Balkema, Mike (Sabrina) Osburn, Zachary Johnson, Nick Terpstra, Kaitlin Rounds, Abby Cross, Justin (Danielle) Porter, Tara (Denis) Evans, and Josh (Rachael Marrion) Porter; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Bonnie Magoon Miller for the care she gave Barbara in her home. She became a very special friend to Barbara. Also, to Spectrum Health Hospice for the care and attention that was given to Barbara this past year. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place. Man dies in crash with semi

A Greenville man died on Monday, November 16, after his vehicle collided with a semi truck in Algoma Township.

According to the Michigan State Police Rockford Post, Jimmy Lee King, 35, of Greenville, was driving westbound on 14 Mile Road, west of Northland Drive, when his vehicle crossed into the path of an eastbound tractor trailer early Monday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Algoma Township Fire and Rescue, Rockford EMS, and the Kent County Sheriff’s Department all assisted MSP at the scene.

King is survived by his wife, Shawn, and their two children, Daylyn and Landon, of Greenville. Visitation with the family is from 12-1 p.m. Saturday at Christiansen Cremation Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with a memorial service immediately following.

NELLIE ALBERDA

Nellie Alberda, age 84, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 at Metron of Cedar Springs after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The daughter of Martin and Berdena (Moorlag) Van Duyn, she was born on March 18, 1931 in Rock Valley, Iowa and worked as an accountant with the Michigan Department of Corrections at the prison in Coldwater. She was preceded in death by her parents;, her husband, Wesley Dale Alberda; a son, Gary Alberda; her step-mother, Merna Van Duyn; and a sister, Jean Feenstra. Surviving are her children, Doug and Lisa Alberda, Patricia Alberda, Rick and Nancy Alberda; a daughter-in-law Beverly Alberda; her grandchildren, Chad (Janelle) Alberda, Shannon (Bill) Crane, Jennifer (Todd) Frazier, and Monica (Scott) Moore; her great grandchildren, Zachery and Elyn Alberda, Addyson and Mason Crane, Aubree and Micah Frazier, Nolan, Colby and Emma Moore; and two sisters, Lee (Jack) Nyenhuis, and Hanna (Scott) Aardema. Family and friends will celebrate Nellie’s life beginning with a memorial service at 2 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at White Creek Estates Community Building, 15851 White Creek Avenue, Cedar Springs, with a memorial open house immediately following from 3 – 6 pm. Instead of flowers, Nellie would have appreciated contributions in her memory to either Hospice of Michigan or the Alzheimer’s Association. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place.
