LORRAINE RAE ALONZO


Lorraine Rae Alonzo of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed peacefully to her rest on October 25, 2020 at Southern Oaks Assisted Living where she resided for the past four years. She was a member of the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church. She had an enduring faith in God, believed in the Bible, and lived her life according to its word. Lorraine was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on November 13, 1923 to the late Raymond and Gladys (Wallin) Murphy. Her family moved from Sioux Falls to Grand Rapids, Michigan when she was a young girl. She attended the local Seventh-day Adventist church school and South High School. While working in Grand Rapids, she met her future husband Robert Alonzo. They were married in La Jolla, California in February of 1943 just before Robert left to serve his country in WWII. Lorraine and Robert (Bob) made their home in Comstock Park, a small town north of Grand Rapids, and raised their seven children. She was a hardworking, devoted, and dedicated mother who was very proud of her children. Lorraine loved people and enjoyed helping others. She loved her job as a greeter at the Meijer Alpine location where she worked for eighteen years. Lorraine Murphy was the third of ten children, eight of whom preceded her in death. LeRoy Harold Murphy, Warren Duane Murphy, Raymond Kenneth Murphy, Delbert James Murphy, Arla Annabelle Murphy, Phyllis Elaine Thrift, Paul Roger Murphy, and Lorretta Kay Sears. She is survived by one sister, Charlene Silberman of Georgia. Lorraine is also survived by her seven children, Robert Alonzo of Arizona, Ronald Alonzo of Michigan, Barbara (Jerry) LaFave of South Carolina, Deborah (Mike) Sulen of Texas, Martin Alonzo of Michigan, Katherine Alonzo of Alaska, and Cheri (Doug) Durst of Tennessee, seventeen grandchildren, thirty one great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the care-givers at Southern Oaks Assisted Living and the nurses from Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga for the loving and professional care given to our mother. Please join us for a celebration of life on Saturday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will take place following the service until 5:00 p.m. at Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, 13603 Northland Dr. Cedar Springs.

Celebration of Life


ANN DENISE LONGCORE

A celebration of Annie’s life: Ann Denise (Bailey) Longcore, June 15, 1956-March 17, 2020. To honor Annie’s wishes not to mourn her loss, but, to have a grand party of family and friends at her home, 22519 Kimball Rd., Sand Lake. An open house celebration will take place on August 15, 2020 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm. Food, drink, and music will be furnished.

Celebrate life at LifeWalk


June 15

Alpha Family Center will host its annual LifeWalk/LifeRun/LifeRide events on Saturday, June 15, and the community is invited to come out to Morley Park, Cedar Springs for a celebration of Life

Over 80 walkers participated in the two-mile LifeWalk in 2018

Alpha Family Center has been a part of the Cedar Springs community since 1992. They are a non-profit, faith-based pregnancy care center serving hundreds in the West Michigan area. This year marks their 24th Annual LifeWalk at 10:00 a.m., and the 6th running of their 5K LifeRun at 8:30 a.m. Back by popular demand is the LifeRide bicycle event at 7:30 a.m. Participants choose from either a 10, 20, 30, or 40 mile leisure ride along the White Pine Trail (Helmets required.) 

LifeRun and LifeRide participants are asked to collect a minimum of $50 in donations in lieu of a registration fee to participate. Participants will receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last). There will also be Kid’s FunRun at 9:15 and the Baby & Me LifeCrawl 11:30.

LifeWalk is a great time for families. They will be face painting, a balloon release, refreshments, prizes and the chance for everyone to help families in a real way.

“For people who are looking for a practical and fun way to put their life-affirming beliefs into action, LifeWalk is the perfect opportunity, “says Teresa Hathaway, Executive Director of Alpha Family Center.

Last year, they were able to offer help 2,263 times to families with over 10,034 free baby items given out. Their services include: free self-pregnancy test, peer mentoring, community agency referrals, maternity, baby and toddler clothing and care necessities. They also provide accurate information on abortion, adoption, and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as sexual abuse, miscarriage and post-abortion support.

BRUCE ALLEN JOHNSON


Bruce Allen Johnson, age 61, of Cedar Springs, passed away on Monday August 6, 2018. Bruce was born to Elmer Johnson and Thelma (Gee) Johnson on August 23, 1956. He was a graduate of Creston High School. Bruce is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane (Deason) Johnson; his children, Tony Johnson (Brandy), Alisha Brooks (Steve), James Johnson (Tabetha), John Paul Johnson (Crystal), Shante Johnson; grandchildren, Tony Jr., Dominic, Mikey, Trevor, Katherine, John, Tyler, Hunter, Zaedyn, Breonna, Evie and Mercedez; brothers and sisters, Sue Bolton (Bill), Roxanne Miller, Buddy Johnson (Chris), John Johnson, Debbie Griffee; brother-in-law Tom Deason and sister-in-law Debra Angstman (Rick); many nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by both parents and son, John Thomas. A Celebration of Life will be held at Alisha Brooks’ House 17330 Tisdel Ave, Sand Lake, MI 49343 at 2:00 p.m. on August 25th, 2018.

CHRISTINA M. JOHANSEN


 

Christina M. Johansen, 68 of Big Rapids passed and went to be with the Lord on July 31,2017 at Covenant Nursing Home in New Orleans Louisiana. Christina was born in Big Rapids, Michigan on August 2, 1948.The daughter of Roy and Ruth (Lavance) Hanson.She was a hairdresser, loving wife, mother, aunt, great aunt, and grandmother. She enjoyed being around her many friends playing dominos and cards. She also enjoyed being around and loving on her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was well liked and loved by everyone she met and made a lasting impression on everyone. Surviving are her children Timothy (Jennifer) Johansen of Muskegon, Tiffany (Collyn) Martinez of New Orleans, Louisiana; her three grandchildren Zane, Zander, and Xavier; her brother Lynnwood (Della) Hanson of Paris Michigan; sister Barbra Hanson of Traverse City; brother Bill (Deb) Hanson of Bay City Michigan. Also many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Dennis and her parents. There will be a small service at Interment Park Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on August the 19th and then a Celebration of life at the Paris Snowmobile Club located at 22531 20 Mile Road, Paris Michigan at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Gary Lee Kruger


Gary Lee Kruger age 76 passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Wednesday, July 12, 2017.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy; children, Tina and Daniel Ward, Thaddeus and Brenda Kruger, Thor TerHaar, Scott TerHaar, Kelly Kruger; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Irene, Roger, Barb, Sandy, June, Larry, and Margie; several nieces and nephews.  As Gary had wished cremation has taken place and  a Celebration of Life will be held at Cedar Creek Community Church on Saturday, July 22, from 2 until 6 P.M.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
