Youth wrestlers take home medals

Fifteen Cedar Springs Youth wrestlers took home medals last Sunday.

Fifteen Cedar Springs Youth wrestlers took home medals last Sunday.

This past Sunday the Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers hit the mats for the 2015-16 season opener at the Mona Shores Open & Novice Tournament.

“They faced some challenging opponents, some facing off on the mat for the first time in competition. They are learning that facing your fears on the mat teaches you to depend on yourself, that your own strength (and weakness) fuels the outcome of your match. No amount of practice can give them that fire to win and to do their personal best,” said Coach Jake Marsman. “Out of 18 wrestlers, 15 took home medals! Way to go, boys and girls!” he added.

First place finishers were Gavin Byxbe in the 7/8 year old 67lb open division, Trevor Marsman in the 11/12 year old 75lb open division, Logan Troupe in the 11/12 year old 85lb novice division, Andrew VanGessel in the 13/14 year old 85lb open division and Carter Falan in the 11/12 year old 90lb open division.

Second place finishers were Keaton Klaasen in the 9/10 year old 59lb open division, Marek Russ in the 7/8 year old 64lb novice division, Matthew Vaughn in the 9/10 year old 90lb novice division, Ariana Meyers in the 11/12 year old 133lb novice division and Austin Miller in the 11/12 year old 183lb novice division.

Third place finishers were Bryson Streeter in the 4/5/6 year old 40lb novice division, Blake Pickard in the 9/10 year old 80lb novice division and Wyatt Cooper in the 9/10 year old 110lb open division.
