Results from Reeths Puffer, Spartan Country and US Junior Open Championships

This past weekend, West Michigan Pursuit entered 15 grapplers to compete at Reeths Puffer, Spartan Country in Battle Creek, and the US Junior Open Championships in Oklahoma (USJOC). Thirteen placed in the top four. Our team battled 37 times, with 24 ending in victory.

All results are for Reeths Puffer, unless otherwise noted. Placements are as follows:

3rd Place Medalists include 58 lb Logan Galinis, 6 & under age group and 72 lb Blake Peasley (Spartan Country), 7/8 age group.

2nd Place Medalists include 43 lb Jacob Howard, 6 & under age group; 85 lb Joshua Howard, 9/10 Novice age group; 64 lb Tyler Parmeter, 7/8 age group; 52 lb Aaiden Vasquez, 6 & under age group and 59/63 lb Joshua Vasquez, 7/8 age group.

Champions are 90 lb Gage Bowen, 7/8 age group; 80 lb Xavier Contreras, 11/12 age group; 58/61 lb Luke Egan, 7/8 age group; 85 lb Braden Hallman, 11/12 age group; 52 lb Andrew Moro (USJOC) Division 1; and 64 lb Isaiah Sostenes, 7/8 age group.

“Our numbers were down for the holidays but the efforts were exceptional. These kids show consistent improvement towards reaching their goal of state and national titles,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.

West Michigan Pursuit traveled to the Orchardview Tournament on Super Bowl Sunday last weekend, bringing eighteen grapplers to compete, with twelve entering the novice division. Pursuit placed 17 in the top 4. This week brought 35 victories out of 59 battles. Owner and Head Coach, Dave Andrus said, “I am very proud to represent the past, the present and the future of wrestling.” This week’s placements are as follows:

4th place medalists include Nicholas Bartolo in the 7/8 Novice age group in the 64 lb wt class and Blake Longcore in the 13/14 Novice age group in the 107/114 lb wt class.

3rd place medalists include Hunter Chilcote in the 11/12 Novice age group in the 95/100/105 lb wt class, Casey Chlebek in the 7/8 Open age group in the 58 lb wt class and Colton Schmid in the 7/8 Novice age group in the 61 lb wt class.

2nd place medalists include Cameron Fess in the 11/12 Open age group in the 80/85 lb wt class, Austin Ortowski (06/05 Open) in the 97/112 lb wt class, Kaden Ortowski in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 46 lb wt class and Maston Wood in the 9/10 Open age group in the 100 lb wt class. Kaden wrestled his own teammate, Luke Egan for the Championship!

Champions are Derek Egan in the 11/12 Novice age group in the 85/90 lb wt class, Luke Egan in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 46 lb wt class, Olivia Male in the 9/10 Open age group in the 71 lb wt class, Jayden Marcano-Cruz in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 43 lb wt class, Blake Peasley in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 49/52/58 lb wt class, Lucus Pienton in the 13/14 Novice age group in the 122/130 lb wt class, Zak Schmid in 11/12 Novice age group in the 119 lb wt class, and Ty Whalen in the 11/12 Open age group in the 60/65 lb wt class. Special recognition to Blake Peasley and Zak Schmid, who both remain undefeated. Congratulations to all of you grapplers for stepping out on the mat and working as hard as you do. You truly are The Pursuit of Champions!

West Michigan Pursuit brought twenty-five grapplers to compete at the Byron Center Tournament last weekend and 14 placed in the top four.  Sixteen of our competitors are Novice wrestlers which mean they have two years wrestling experience or less. Pursuit had a total of 84 battles and 48 of them ended in victory.

“I love working with these young kids; sharing my passion and coaching the skill of wrestling is what it is all about,” said owner and head coach Dave Andrus. “Watching these kids apply that knowledge on the mat is why I do what I do.”

This week’s placements are as follows:

4th Place Medalists include Nathan Elliston in the 9/10 Open age group in the 80 lb wt class and Daniel Vaughn in the 9/10 Novice age group in the 75 lb wt class.

3rd Place Medalists include Nathan Male in the 11/12 Open age group in the 80 lb wt class and Austin Ortowski in the 7/8 Open age group in the 97 lb wt class.

2nd Place Medalist include Brocke Fisher in the 11/12 Open age group in the 65 lb wt lb class, Lucus Pienton in the 13/14 Novice age group in the 130/138 lb wt class, Jay Smith in the 11/12 Novice age group in the 95 lb wt class, Jayden Marcano-Cruz in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 43 lb wt class, and Maston Wood in the 9/10 Open age group in the 100 lb wt class.

Champions are Luke Egan in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 49 lb wt class, Cameron Fess in the 11/12 Open age group in the 85 lb wt class, Blake Peasley in the 4/5/6 Open age group in the 58 lb wt class, Zak Schmid in 11/12 Novice age group in the 112/119 lb wt class and Ty Whalen in the 11/12 Open age group in the 65 lb wt class. Special recognition goes to Blake Peasley who remains undefeated. Congratulations to all of you grapplers for stepping out on the mat and working as hard as you do. You truly are The Pursuit of Champions!

West Michigan Pursuit brought 18 grapplers to compete at the Lowell Tournament last weekend and 13 placed in the top three. Pursuit had a total of 66 battles and 42 of them ended in victory.

Owner and Head Coach, Dave Andrus was pleased. “Each week I am continued to be impressed with the progress of my young grapplers and their own determination to be the best they can be!” he remarked. This week›s placements are as follows:

Third place medalists include Olivia Male in the 9/10 Open age group in the 71 lb wt class, and Jayden Marcano-Cruz in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 43 lb wt class. Note that Jayden has been to two practices and this was his very first tournament! Way to go Jayden!

Second place Medalist include Hunter Chilcote in the 11/12 Novice age group in the 100/105 lb wt class, Nathan Elliston in the 9/10 Open age group in the 80 lb wt. class, Cameron Fess in the 11/12 Open age group in the 85 lb wt class, Cody McHenry in the 13/14 Novice age group in the 145/155 lb wt class, Austin Ortowski in the 7/8 Open age group in the 82/97 lb wt class, Jay Smith in the 11/12 Novice age group in the 95 lb wt class and Maston Wood in the 9/10 Open age group in the 95 lb wt class.

Champions are Luke Egan in the 4/5/6 Novice age group in the 49 lb wt class, Blake Peasley in the 4/5/6 Open age group in the 55/58 lb wt class, Lucus Pienton in the 13/14 Novice age group in the 122/130 lb wt class and Ty Whalen in the 11/12 Open age group in the 60/65 lb wt class.

Special recognition goes to Blake Peasley and Lucus Pienton who remain undefeated and have participated in the East Kentwood , Belding and Lowell Tournaments. Congratulations to all of you grapplers for stepping out on the mat and working as hard as you do. You truly are The Pursuit of Champions!
