MARK A. RITTER


Mark A. Ritter, 63 of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Mark was born January 22, 1955 in Big Rapids, Michigan the son of Alan and Clara (TenEyck) Ritter. He was a graduate of Cedar Springs High School and served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and storytelling. He loved his family and grandkids. Surviving are his wife, Terri; sons, Alan (Bernice) and Aaron (Madeline); grandchildren, Nickolie, Alister, Noah, Owen and one on the way; brother, Gary (BJ). Cremation has taken place and a private memorial will be held.

GERALDINE SCHRIEVER


Geraldine A. Schriever age 79 of Cedar Springs, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. She was born October 26, 1938 in Ellsworth, Michigan the daughter of Gerrit and Henrietta (Potter) Hoeksema. She was a member of Rockford Springs Community Church for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Loriann Meno; grandchildren, Maranda (Ken) Aalsburg, Matthew Cowling and Tiffany Meno; sisters, Nancy VanDyke and Evelyn Knapke; brothers, James, Gary, John, Marvin, Vern, Wesley and Fred Hoeksema; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hendrick; son, Scott; granddaughters, April and Emily; brother, Robert Hoeksema. The visitation and service was Tuesday, April 3 at Rockford Springs Community Church, 5815 14 Mile Road, Rockford. Pastor David Vander Meer officiating. Private interment Blythefield Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.

VERNON W. WHITE


 

Vernon W. White age 72 of Ensley Township, Sand Lake, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Metro Health Hospital. Vern was born October 19, 1945 in Courtland Township, Michigan the son of Wayne and Stella (Roberts) White. He had worked for Dykema Excavating in construction and loved to farm. He was an avid hunter, used work horses for farming and enjoyed trail riding with the “Over the Hill Gang”. Surviving are his wife, Judy; children, Anna (Doug) Jourden, Kathy (Bob) Kruger, Brenda (Dave) Pyne; grandchildren, Josh (Kim), Tonya (John), Andy, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Harper, Westlynn, Madison, Carter, and Skylar; mother, Stella White; sister, Verna (James) Smigiel; brothers, Harvey (Margaret) White, Dennis (Colleen) White, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Edward; and sister, Wanda Wagner. The family received friends Wednesday, March 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Thursday, March 22 at11:00 a.m. Mr. Derald Rhineberger officiating. Interment Crandall Cemetery.

CHARLES “DUANE” FISHER


 

Charles “Duane” Fisher age 83 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Cedar Springs passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at home with his daughter. He was born in Craig, Missouri on August 19, 1934 to Charles and Loreen (Wright) Fisher. Duane is survived by his daughter Kristin Fisher-Kraemer, and her mother Tricia Fisher; grandson Brett (Falicia) Fisher; great-grandson Joxon Fisher. He was preceded in death by his wife Onalee in 2013. The family will meet with friends Saturday, March 24 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Inge Whittemore officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association 2944 Fuller Ave. NE Ste 101 Grand Rapids, MI 49505.

KENNETH R. BAILEY


Kenneth R. “Bud” Bailey age 76 passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 surrounded by his family at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. He was born in Escanaba, Michigan on January 23, 1942 to Kenneth and Joyce (Krouth) Bailey. He worked as an accountant for Cedar Springs for 20 years and also as controller at Mary Free Bed Hospital. He loved gardening, golfing, sports, especially U of M, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He is survived by Amber (Williams) his wife of 54 years; daughters, Sheila (Joe) Wittenbach and Ann (Trever) Hall; His grandchildren, Evan, Josh, Cade, Alex and Tressa; in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kenny; sister, Bonnie Morton; niece, Julia Morton; son-in-law, Jim Kirkwood; and parents-in-law, Olive & Ray Williams. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a memorial service will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Free Bed Foundation.

JOHN EDWARD HULL


 

John Edward Hull age 57 of Ensley Township passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home after a brief battle with cancer. John was born in Grand Rapids on January 8, 1961 to Dwight and Marian (Roosien) Hull. John grew up in Wyoming, Michigan, graduated from Godwin Heights High School, and moved to Sand Lake. John loved his children and his dogs. He also enjoyed sports especially the Tigers, U of M, and wrestling. John is survived by his children Kirk Jon Hull and Monica Rae Hull; father, Dwight; siblings, Carol and Donald Dracht, James and Karen Hull, and Connie Beles; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Darla Rae and mother, Marian Noreen. The family wishes to thank Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their care. The family greeted friends Wednesday, February 28 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs with the funeral service following. Pastor Jeff Wallace of Pierson Bible Church officiated. NANCY J. SEE


Nancy J. See age 76 of Rockford, died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at her home. Nancy was born July 3, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Earl and Jessie (Irwin) Tyler. She was a member of the 40 et 8 and the Cedar Springs American Legion Auxiliary where she ran the bingo for 20 years. She had a great sense of humor and loved living on the lake. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and loved Jesus, her family and her friends. Nancy was always there to help others and anyone in need. Surviving are her husband, James; children, Debi (Garrett) Hanson, Dawn (Edward) Smith, David Smith, Patrick (Kathy) See, Gerald See, Eric See; grandchildren, Nicole Miller, Jessica Krueger, Breanna Smith, Brayden Smith, Christa See, Kristen See, James See; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores (George) Peterson; special cousin, June Force. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren, Brendan Smith and Katie Grace Smith; sisters, Earlene Hinzman and Jackie Pena. The family will greet friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Friday 11:00 am. EVELYN M. BLISS 


 

Evelyn M. Bliss 97 of Cedar Springs died Monday, February 12, 2018 at Bishop Hills, Rockford. Mrs. Bliss was born August 31, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of John Jay and Mary Ellen (O’Leary) Seeley. She along with her husband, Tom owned and operated the Bliss Funeral Home from 1954 – 1981. She was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Cedar Springs. She stayed very involved in her church and the Cedar Springs community throughout the years. Surviving are her daughters, MaryAnn (Ted) DeVries of Plainwell, Peggy Helsel of Rockford; grandchildren, Brenna Willis, Eric (Jessica) DeVries; beloved great-granddaughters, Hannah and Delilah Willis; unofficial third daughter, Joan Walsh Duffy; nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 2010; son, Patrick in 2015; and brother Floyd “Bud” Seeley. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 11:00 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le presiding. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sand Lake in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Public Library, Hospice of Michigan or the charity of donor’s choice.

EmmaJeanne (Hamilton) Albrecht 90 of Grand Rapids, died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. She was born November 5, 1927 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of Paul and Mary (Steele) Feutz. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She was always there for her family and nothing was more important. Surviving are her children, Joe (Sheryl) Hamilton of Wayland, John (Ruth) Hamilton of Jenison, Julie (Mark) Barnhart, Joni (Scott) Olmsted, Jeff (Annette) Hamilton all of Cedar Springs, Jan Chase of Gobles, Jeanne Hamilton of Pierson, Greg Albrecht of Grand Rapids, and Ted Albrecht of Rockford; son-in-law, Marshall Morris of Cedar Springs; sisters, Nancee Cyr of Kalamazoo, Sally (George) Erwood of Grand Rapids; brothers, Roger (Mary) Feutz, Richard (Sunop) Feutz of Grand Rapids, and Tom (Alice) Feutz of Cedar Springs; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands, Donald Hamilton and Arlie Albrecht; daughter, Jari Morris; son-in-law, Chris Chase; brothers David Feutz and Gerard (Evelyn) Feutz; brother-in-law, Bill Cyr; sister-in-law, Connie Feutz. The family will receive friends Wednesday February 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Jeanette E. “Jan” Cookingham, 85 of Cedar Springs passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Harrietta, Michigan to Carl & Mable (Hewett) Mercer. She married Corry S. Cookingham on June 2, 1956 and loved being a mother, grandmother and taking care of her home. She is survived by her husband Corry; children, Corry C. (Patti) Cookingham, Sue Mansfield, Craig C. Cookingham and Curt C. (Laura) Cookingham; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Lucas Mansfield. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs with the family meeting friends at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions to Shriner’s or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.
