Jerry Boyd Hall


 

Jerry Boyd Hall, 87 of Cedar Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born September 3, 1927 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Herbert and Gladys (Beugnot) Hall. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54. His life was summed up by his family on Father’s Day as their mentor, teacher, consultant, doctor, best friend, dad and granddad. He will be greatly missed. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Elsa; children, Celeste (Scott) Schut, Janice (James) Baker; grandchildren, Angel (Calvin) Brink, Don (Dana) Whidden, Jerrod Roberts, Jenna (Jason) Caniff, Anna (Robert) Cavasos, Cassandra Navarre; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Jay (Judy) Hall; many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Bud Proudfit, Judy Bussema, Jack Hall and Gene Hall. A graveside service will be held Saturday 1:00 pm at Solon Township Cemetery. Pastor Larry Young officiating.

Mary E. Siebert


 

Mary E. Siebert, 85 of Cedar Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus. Mrs. Siebert was born July 17, 1929 in Granite City, IL the daughter of George and Sarah (Patterson) Brown. She had been a bank auditor and later enjoyed hobby farming with her husband. She was a member of Cedar Creek Community Church and their Ladies Auxiliary Club. She was an avid golfer and bowler. Surviving are her children, Geraldine Myers, Robert Siebert, Donna Kaye Smith, Roger George Siebert; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; brother, Ray (Rosemary) Brown; sister, Donna (Owen) Arney. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 2001; granddaughters, Tonya Gail Siebert and Paula Lynn Silliman; brother, George Brown. The family will greet friends Thursday from 9:30 am until time of service at 11:00 am at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Richard Nichols officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs.

Dorothy M. Blanchard

Dorothy M. Blanchard (Streeter) 92 passed from this life into the next on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was born April 19, 1923 in Cedar Springs, MI the daughter of Ted and Bessie (Parker) Streeter. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Robert Blanchard; and husband, John Blanchard; brother, Maurice Streeter. She leaves behind her children, Ron (Joy) Blanchard, Tonnie (Chuck) Smith, Jeff Blanchard, John Blanchard II, and Greg Blanchard; sister-in-law, Gay (Tom) Hudson; grandchildren, Blain (Angie) Blanchard, Tori (Chuck) Smith-VanBelle, Trevor Smith, Brandon (Kristie) Smith, Shelly (Phil) Scheer, Rene Blanchard, Haley (Joe) Saxinger, Jeffrey Blanchard, Samantha (Drew) Dutton, Erwin Blanchard, Tyler Blanchard; many great and great great grandchildren. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Cedar Springs, her parent’s farm is now the site of the Cedar Springs High School, as well as the Streeter addition to the City of Cedar Springs, including Metron of Cedar Springs. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm and Thursday from 2-4 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Friday at 11:00 am. Pastor Steve Lindeman officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Association for the Blind or American Heart Association.

Eloise Margaret Petersen


 

25C-obit-petersenEloise Margaret Petersen, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2015, five days before her 100th birthday. Eloise was born June 26, 1915 in Cedar Springs, MI the daughter of James and Alta (Butler) Russell. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and crafts, but her true passion was teaching. She still maintained friendships with students from the 1930’s. She will be remembered as an independent, intelligent woman who was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Surviving are her daughter, Irene Petersen; son-in-law, Richard Cheslek, Jr.; grandsons, Eric (Heather) Cheslek, Joseph (Amy) Cheslek, Michael (Kristie) Cheslek; five great grandchildren; her very special sister, Mabel Northup; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Raymond; son, Gene; daughter-in-law, Ann (Senne); granddaughter, Wendy Jo; sister, Bernice Ambrose; brother, Howard Russell. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Meadowlark Retirement Village in Sparta for their care. The family will greet friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm. Mr. John Lovell officiating. David L. Wallace


C-OBIT-WallaceDavid L. Wallace, 38 of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at his home. David was born March 20, 1977 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Dale and Judy (Moos) Wallace. He graduated from Kent City High School in 1995 and had worked at Federal Mogul. He enjoyed working on vehicles, vegetable gardening and deer hunting. Surviving are his wife, Faye whom he married on July 12, 2003; children, David, Ethan and Leah; father, Dale Wallace; sister, Carolyn (Rich) Straub; brother, Bryan (Jodi) Wallace; nieces and nephews, Adrianna, Brooklyn, Caroline, Blake, Megan, Bryce and Emily. He was preceded in death by his mother. The family greeted friends Tuesday at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services were held Wednesday 10:30 am. Rev. Fr. Loren George Dragoo


 

Loren George Dragoo, age 75, born June 4, 1939 in Fremont, Michigan passed away at his home in Solon Township, Kent County on May 10, 2015. Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence L. (Roy) and Gladys (Bruckner) Dragoo of Fremont, Michigan. Loren is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann (Sagorski); his sister, Barbara J. (Calvin) Deitz of Newaygo; his niece, Susan A. (Karl) Frederiksen of Newaygo; grandnephew, Erik H. Frederiksen and grandniece, Kacie A. (Stephen) Smith of Spring Lake, Michigan and their children, Ryann Frederiksen, Harrisen, Carter and Tes Smith. A graduate of Fremont High School Class of 1957 and upon receiving his degree from Michigan State University in 1962, he began his Industrial Engineering career with Sealed Power Corporation at their headquarters in Muskegon and at their La Grange, Indiana and Stratford, Ontario, Canada facilities. In 1967 Loren joined Rapistan (now Dematic) as Sales Engineer for the Indiana territory, and later at the Grand Rapids headquarters serving in various Industrial Engineering capacities until his retirement in June 2000. Loren was a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and the Boy Scouts of America. At Loren’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Vicki Johnson-Becker


Vicki Sue Johnson-Becker, 54 of Howard City, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Mercy Health St. Mary’s. Vicki was born May 28, 1959 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Gerald and Glenda (Headrick) Collis. She was a very caring person, an awesome mom and grandma and was known to her grandkids as “Hammy”. She had worked for Ferris State University for over 20 years and had recently been a home health aide. Surviving are her children, Audrea (Tom) DeLong, Jacob (Melissa) Johnson, Jessica (Matthew) Poling; 3 grandchildren, Leigha, Elijah, Esch; father, Gerald (Lois) Collis, sisters, Kathy (Thomas) Hill, Rebecca Collis; nephews and niece, Ryan and Randy Nazionale, Renee Radin, Justin Collis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gregory and mother, Glenda.The service will be held Saturday, March 8 at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. VICTOR W. TISDEL


EPSON scanner imageVictor W. Tisdel 71 of Winter Springs, Florida passed away on October 13, 2013. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Erwin and Logretta Tisdel on February 2, 1942. Victor graduated from Cedar Springs High School in 1960 and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He served four years mostly on Okinawa Island. Victor attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Delta. He received a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Emby Riddle and became a professor where he was integral in the Wind Tunnel Research Program. He was granted a patent on “Airplane Landing Gear Design.” Victor went on to the Daytona Beach General Electric facilities and then completed his career at Lockheed Martin in Orlando where he specialized in Tank Simulation Technology Innovations. He enjoyed traveling, air shows and designing and flying gyrocopters. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sylvia (Rickenbacker) Tisdel; his sister, Nancy (Colen) Cole of Cedar Springs, Michigan; his adopted son, David (Deborah) Tisdel of Delton, Florida and nephew, Calvin (Carolynn) Cole of Rockford, Michigan. Services will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bliss-Witters and Pike Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Smith officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

NEIL E. SIEGEL

Neil E. Siegel, 82 of Cedar Springs, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at his home. Neil was born April 29, 1931 in Ensley Center, Michigan the son of Edd and Blanche (Welch) Siegel. He graduated from Sand Lake High School in 1949 and attended Michigan State University. He was a farmer, and retired from the Kent County Road Commission in 1993. He was married to Maureen (Boyle) Siegel for 27 years before she preceded him in death in 1995. He was a member of Mary Queen of Apostles and the Knights of Columbus. Neil was a great father and took his family on vacation each year, but was always glad to be back home. He now is truly home. Surviving are his daughters; Laura (Michael) Eppler of Evansville, Indiana, Kathleen Siegel of Cedar Springs; grandchildren, Noah, Mark, Luke, Mary, and Patrick; sisters, Mariel Hawley of Grant, Jeanne Forand of Florida; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded by sisters, Dorothy Siegel and Lorraine Watson. The family received friends Monday, Oct. 28 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday 11:00 am at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Ensley Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus.

Bobbi was born June 26, 1950 in Hudson, Michigan, the daughter of Wayne and Dorothy (Barron) Eady. She graduated Hudson High School in 1968 and had been a foreign exchange student her Junior Year to Holland and Belgium with Youth for Understanding. She attended Michigan State University. She was a member of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club and had been a champion for the downtrodden and underprivileged, supporting many local charities. She was a loving and caring mother, sister and daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Eleanor Eady “Ellie” Colvin; stepson, Alfred Colvin; mother, Dorothy Eady; brothers, Allen (Linda) Eady, Richard & Cathy Eady; brother-in-law, Ronald (Susan) Colvin; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2007; stepson, Tim Colvin; father, Wayne Eady; parents-in-law, Alfred & Marianne Baars. The family greeted friends Monday, Sept. 9 at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment Courtland Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, Cedar Springs United Methodist Church or Cedar Springs Women’s Club.
