On Friday January 31, Cedar Springs Boy varsity basketball faced off with the Ottawa Hills Bengals. The game was played at Ottawa Hills in their newly renovated gym. If you haven’t had a chance to watch a game there, there will be several games to watch February 8 in the 9th annual Floyd Mayweather Basketball Classic.

The Red Hawks battled the Bengals in a match that saw several lead changes. Going into half time the score was tied 27-27. It wasn’t until late in the third quarter that Ottawa’s depth, and Cedar having players in foul trouble, gave the Bengals the advantage in what seemed to be a track race.

“Our guys have a done a great job battling it out this year,” said Cedar Springs Coach James Telman. “We have played some of the top teams in the great Grand Rapids area, and we have shown that we can hang in there with them. We have had an opportunity in just about every loss and I believe that we will soon take that next step forward and surprise some teams.”

The Red Hawks ended the game in a loss 60-72. Four starters ended with double figure scoring. Nate Webb scored 10, Trenton Cooper added another 10, Aiden Brunin ended with 14 and Bryce Marvel led the team with 16. Miles Cartwright added 6 and Joseph Metiva added 4.

The Red Hawks play a home game vs Forest Hills Northern on Friday February 7 at 7 p.m. Come cheer on your Red Hawks!
