Cedar Springs sixth-grader Austin Alcumbrack was picked from over 3,000 baseball players in the first round to represent Game Day USA on their Disney team down in Orlando this winter.

He is the son of Todd and Sandy Alcumbrack, of Cedar Springs.

According to his older sister, Kali, Austin has played many years of little league but just had his first year of travel ball this last year playing at the Rockford Baseball Academy.

“He helped out a 12-year-old team, and was picked by the opposing team as an MVP. Getting this allowed him to play in the Game Day USA All Star MVP tournament at the Art Van Complex in Rockford, where his team won the championship,” she explained.

She said he pitched in two games and batted over .800 during the four games. While doing individual evaluations he got 1st in 3 out of the 4; ball velocity off the bat, throwing speed, and 40 yard dash; and took second in the 4th event, 5-10-5 drill.

Austin plays 1st and 3rd base but is mainly a pitcher. “He pitches 65 mph but can hit 70. He can throw a solid fastball along with an amazing change up and curveball,” said Kali.

He bats 4th in the lineup and has hit 6 home runs in his baseball career, the last reportedly being over 370 feet. He has already started practices with his new team and league and is joining the Grand Rapids Diamonds.

The Disney New Year’s Baseball Classic takes place at the end of December.

Congratulations and good luck, Austin!
