Schrier named 5th District Legionnaire of the year


N-American-Legion-SchrierThe American Legion Glen Hill Post #287 here in Cedar Springs is honored to have their Finance Officer, Paul Schrier, named the 5th District Legionnaire of the year.

At the District meeting held March 12, 2016, the District Commander Garrett Veihl made the announcement. This award is given yearly to an outstanding Legion member who has contributed above and beyond average participation for the Legion. The 5th District includes all the Legion Posts in Kent and Ottawa counties. Congratulations Paul!

Veteran’s Day ceremony at Metron


In honor of Veteran’s Day, the American Legion Glen Hill Post 287 will present a flag ceremony at Metron of Cedar Springs, located at 400 Jeffrey, on November 11, at 2 p.m. Opening prayer will be presented by Pastor Steve Lindeman, of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, and music will be provided by the Cedar Springs High School Band. Everyone is welcome to stay immediately following the ceremony for refreshments and musical entertainment.

A Day to remember


Residents gathered at cemeteries and other locales Monday to remember those who died in the service of our country, and all those that have made our freedom possible.

The American Legion Glen Hill Post #287 held services at Elmwood, Solon, and East Nelson Cemeteries and the Cedar Springs Veterans Park. Assisting with the service was the American Legion  Honor Guard, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion and the Boy Scouts.

Services were also held in Algoma Township, Sand Lake and Pierson. The Cedar Springs Historical Society held their annual cemetery walk in Elmwood Cemetery on the Sunday before Memorial Day.
