ALICE “KAY” HALLOCK


 

Alice “Kay” Hallock, age 74, of Cedar Springs passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 19, 2017. Alice was born February 15, 1943 in Comstock Park, Michigan to Stephen and Alice (McKrill) Burns. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years Phil; children, David Korreck, Christine (Leland) Mullennix, Timothy John Korreck, Holly (Daniel) Metzger, and Mandy Menefee; grandchildren, Joshua Korreck, Trisha Dart, Jeffrey Alverson, Jamie Taylor, and Morgen Menefee; great-grandchildren, Joshua Jr., Hezekiah, Kora, and Zola who is coming soon; sisters, Bernice Schneider, Barbara Skelonc, and Janet (Paul) Harris; and brother Dan (Nancy) Burns. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Bertha Kent and Ruth Middleton; brothers, Stephen, Frank, and Robert Burns; and grandson Eric Mullennix. The family greeted friends Tuesday, May 23, at Bliss-Witters and Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Funeral service was Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home with a gathering one hour prior to service, Fr. Lam Le, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association or to American Heart Association.

George Sheppard


C-Obit-sheppardGeorge Sheppard age 72 of Sand Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Laurels of Kent, Lowell. George was born June 26, 1944 in Grand Rapids, the son of George and Jean (McCune) Sheppard. George was a member of the Buck Creek Free Trappers American Mountain Men. He was an amazing woodcraftsman and loved camping, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean (McCune) Tabor; son, Private Eric Sheppard; his beloved wife, Leona (Johnson) Sheppard whom he married on May 7, 1976 and brother-in-law, Larry VanSlyke.  He is survived by his father, George Sheppard; brother, Michael (Shirley) Sheppard; sisters, Ellen (Don) Pitts and Anajean VanSlyke; son, Todd (Shawn) Sheppard; stepdaughter, Leslie (Bruce) Westbrook; stepson, Scott (Darci) Harig; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins. The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 20 from 1-5 pm at the home of Ellen and Don Pitts, 1011 Sprucewood Dr. Greenville, MI 48838. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Arthritis Foundation.

Mr. David Lee Tisdel of Cedar Springs, Michigan, age 71, passed away on the evening of Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born to Mervel and Virginia (Wood) Tisdel on May 3, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. David was the oldest child of three brothers, raised on their family farm in the Cedar Springs area. He was a graduate of Cedar Springs High School and David was married to Jill Tisdel (Gunneson) of Kent City. David was an exceptional truck driver, hauling steel, and hauled people too, as his career shifted into the charter business. In his free time, David enjoyed pulling antique tractors, and snowmobiling, as well as motorcycling. David is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Jill Tisdel; childen, Mischelle Felbab, Scott (Jennifer Bedel) Smith, Nancy Smith, and Cindy Smith; grandchildren Myckala Felbab, Amanda Harmon, Jimmy Harmon, Jasmyn Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Jeremiah Smith, Brendan Paepke; great grandchildren Elliot, Cain, and Jaxon; brothers Dennis (Connie) Tisdel and Brian Tisdel; and son-in-law Michael Felbab. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife Barbara (Giles) Tisdel. There will be a memorial visitation held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE, Rockford, MI 49341. SHERRY ELLEN BIVENS


 

C-obit-Bivens-fcSherry Ellen Bivens of Howard City, age 48, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015 after being sick for so many years. She was born in Woodstock, Illinois to James Lamczyk and Charlotte Bivens in 1966. Sherry loved many things in life. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and other sports as well as watching the jewelry channel. She also liked Ford Mustangs. Sherry was a loving and devoted spouse, proud mother; wonderful daughter and sister, and dear friend. May her great sense of humor never be forgotten. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Sherry is survived by her daughter Ashley; husband of twenty-seven years, Larry Huffman; mother Charlotte Bivens; sisters, Sue (Tom) Gwilt and Sonya (Joe Vega) Bivens; brothers Charles (Jean) Bivens and Bob (Becky Cunningham) Bivens; and her Yorkie Cassie. She was preceded in death by her father; and sister Brenda Lamczyk. There will be a memorial service for Sherry at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at the Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE, Rockford, MI 49341. There will be a time of visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Diabetes Education


United Lifestyles, a member of Spectrum Health United Hospital in Greenville, is offering a three-session Diabetes Education group class. The classes will be held on Wednesdays, beginning December 7, 2011 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 407 S. Nelson, Greenville. This American Diabetes Association recognized program includes education on glucose levels, dietary guidelines, and management techniques.  Most insurances cover all or part of the class fees, with a physician’s signature.
