Kent Theatre Volunteer Sign-up

June 24,26: June 24th and June 26th from 10 am to 12 pm and from 1:30 pm to 3 pm in the Kent Theatre lobby. Volunteers are needed for the concessions area. We are usually open Friday thru Sunday, with occasional weekdays for plays and special events. We will consider groups and families but volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Work shifts vary from 4 hours to 10 hours on any given day. Volunteer hours can count as community service hours. Contact Mary Balon at 616-696-3168 or e-mail events@kenttheatre.org. #24,25p

Metron of Cedar Springs Open House

June 25: Metron of Cedar Springs is excited to announce our facility is hosting an Open House on Thursday, June 25th from 4 pm to 6 pm. June 30: The Red Flannel Art Review is entering its third year and is once again seeking artists to compete for cash prizes. Every Day Hero

June 30: Calling all grades 3 -6 to the Cedar Springs Library out on the lawn (inside if raining) from 11 am to 12 pm to join Every Day Hero … our very own Sgt. Jason Kelly of the Kent County Sheriff’s Department as he demonstrates some of the equipment that he used for his job every day. The police cruiser and radio will be on site for instruction for the curious. #25

PATH Diabetics Class at Solon Center Wesleyan

July 2: PATH Diabetics Class starting July 2nd at 9 am at Solon Center Wesleyan Church, 15671 Algoma Ave., Cedar Springs. FREE class for anyone with diabetes. Two trained leaders guide workshops. It doesn’t matter how long you have had diabetes or how well or how poorly you think you are doing with your diabetes. The workshop covers many things about diabetes, but what you will really learn are ways to help take care of your health. In a workshop you will learn techniques to move more easily, take charge of your health, be more independent and communicate better with your health care team. You will learn to make weekly action plans that help you stay on track with your diabetes care. You and the other workshop participants will help each other learn to solve problems managing diabetes. #24,25p

Help Promote Literacy

July 6: The Literacy Center of West Michigan has scheduled and information session on Monday, July 6 for prospective volunteer tutors. This session is held at 2:00 pm and lasts one hour. It allows persons interested in becoming volunteer tutors to fund out more about the Center and its literacy programs. At the end of the session there will be an opportunity to sign up for tutor training. By training people to be tutors, the Center can offer one-on-one reading help to adults asking for assistance in reading or English as a Second Language (ESL). You do not need to speak another language to tutor ESL. The Center is located at 1120 Monroe Ave., NW, Suite 240, Grand Rapids. Sweet! Cake Decorating for Teens

July 6&9: Learn some tips and tricks for decorating cakes, cookies and other sweet treats. Hands-on fun included Pre-registration is required and participant spots are limited. “Zeemo the Great”

July 8: The Cedar Springs Library invites you to the Cedar Springs Middle School on Wednesday, July 8th at 2 pm to join “Zeemo the GREAT” as her performs Way Cool tricks for the curious… yo yos, magnets, juggling, electrifying, shocking, engaging! Audience participation.


July 8: Make a variety of spa products from simple ingredients that you can take home, such as sugar and oatmeal scrubs, fizzy bath bombs and silky body lotion. Pre-registration is required.
