Cedar Springs Youth Football

July 31, Aug. 2: Cedar Springs Youth Football, Thursday, July 31 from 6 – 8 pm at Skinner Field and Saturday, August 2nd are the final days of Football Sign-ups. During day camp, stop on in and get your child signed up for Rocket/ Middle school football. We will be there from 10 am – 2 pm. Prep Sports will be on site from 12 – 2 pm. You can also sign up at Take Two Game shop. #31

 

Family Fun Day at Metron

Aug. 1: Metron of Cedar Springs, 400 Jeffrey St., is having their Family Fun Day this Friday, August 1, from 4 – 6 pm. There will be food, games, entertainment and drawings. You are welcome to come and visit with us. Hope to see you Friday. #31

 

Solon Market is Going to the Dogs

Aug. 2: Solon Market is hosting its second annual Dog Daze of Summer Pet Expo featuring Trooper Cardeanas and his canine team (demo at 10 am), their Popular Pet Show for children and their pets, Humane Society of West Michigan, C-Snip and many other related businesses. It all happens this Saturday, August 2 beginning at 10 am. Please pre-register with Vicky at 616-696-4227 for the Popular Pet Show. Free entry – no door fee – voting will be by popular vote and through donations to the Humane Society. Prizes for each entry! Come support this worthy cause! VBS at The Springs Church

Aug. 3-7: “Weird Animals”  – God filled the world with a lot of crazy creatures…including you! When kids feel weird, different, or even lost in a crowd – nothing compares to the extraordinary love of Jesus. At Weird Animals Vacation Bible School kids ages 4 years to 6th grade will enter an epic adventure that will empower them to stand strong. Dinner at the Legion

Aug. 4: American Legion, 80 Main St. Cedar Springs, is hosting a Pork Chop dinner on Monday, August 4th, from 5 – 7 pm. Included will be mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, veggies, salad, dessert and drinks. The cost is $9 for adults, children (12 and younger) $4.00. Come and enjoy home cooking. VBS at St. John Paul II

Help Promote Literacy

Aug. 5: The Literacy Center of West Michigan has scheduled and information session on Tuesday, August 5 for prospective volunteer tutors. This session is held at 6:30 pm and lasts one hour. It allows persons interested in becoming volunteer tutors to fund out more about the Center and its literacy programs. At the end of the session there will be an opportunity to sign up for tutor training. By training people to be tutors, the Center can offer one-on-one reading help to adults asking for assistance in reading or English as a Second Language (ESL). You do not need to speak another language to tutor ESL. The Center is locat4ed at 1120 Monroe Ave., NW, Suite 240, Grand Rapids. Please call 616-459-5151 (ext. 10) to register. #31

Wild Wednesdays at HCNC

Aug. 6: “Nature Art/Crafts: Calling all children artist and children nature lovers. Nature has inspired many famous artists – is your child next? Spend the dat creating art pieces and crafts, finding great  art in the outdoors. Creating ‘works of art’ that reflect what each child has seen, with paint, leaves and more! We will be creating a peronal nature panorama per child. Rain or Shine. Bring a lunch, dress for the outdoors (no flip-flops or crocs) $8 per child per day. Parents are not required, however are encouraged to come along free of charge. Ages: 5 -15 years. All classes are from 10 am to 2 pm. Cedar Springs Community Player’s Summer Production

Aug. 7-9: On August 7, 8 and 9 at the historic Kent Theatre; all performances will be at 7:30 pm. “Seek Immediate Medical Attention” was written and directed my local playwright, David Schmuker. The play is a comedy, set in a medical office with the action revolving around a lovesick receptionist and a doctor who suffers from migraines. Add to the mix a sexy physician’s assistant and a set of wacky patients, and you have a prescription for zany antics and belly laughs. Tickets are available at the Main Street Restaurant and the Cedar Springs Public Library for $10 for adults and $8 for children age 17 and younger. West Michigan Snowmobile Museum Motorsport Swap

Aug. 9: The West Michigan Snowmobile Museum and Library will host a monthly Motorsport Swap on the 2nd Saturday of every month until Fall. Lakeview School Alumni Banquet

Sept. 7: All Lakeview School Alumni (this includes any former Lakeview School student and guest from 2014 and earlier) and retired teachers are invited to attend the annual Alumni Banquet, to be held at Lakeview High School on Sunday, September 7, 2014.
