The Post travels to Italy

The Post recently traveled to the Tuscany region of Italy, with Steve and Judy Reed, of Cedar Springs.

The couple flew into Milan and then stayed in Montecatini and visited several cities and villages throughout the region. They took one day and explored the ancient walled city of Lucca and visited the town of Pisa, where they saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa and other attractions. Another day they drove to the Chianti region, where Chianti wines are made and visited the town of Greve and tried the area’s wine and olive oils. They also took the train to Florence, where they visited the Uffizi Gallery and saw many works of art from well-known Renaissance artists, including Leonardo DaVinci, Michaelangelo, Botticelli, Caraveggio, and others. Towards the end of the week they took the funiculare (cable car) to the top of Montecatini Alto, a mountaintop village that sits high above Montecatini Terme (where they stayed). On their way back to Milan, they visited the city of Parma, the home of Parmesan cheese and Parma ham (prosciutto).

Besides visiting the ancient towns and villages, the Reeds also loved trying the different types of dishes at the many pizzerias and Italian restaurants in the region, especially the trattorias (family-owned restaurants).

“We had a great time,” they said. “The people were nice, the food was excellent, and it was amazing to see many of the buildings and artifacts from a time in history that we’ve only read about.”

Thank you to the Reeds for taking us with you!

The Post travels to Spain

Marina Dalmau, from Barcelona, Spain, visited Cedar Springs as a foreign exchange student this summer. She is now back in Spain at the beach of Tamariu, in Costa Brava, Spain on holiday for the month of August and she took a Post with her!

Marina was here for six weeks, and stayed with the family of Shawn and Katy Austin. “During that time she attended The Springs Church with us, and was the official Photography assistant at VBS,” said Katy. “We enjoyed going to Lake Michigan with our neighbors and family. We went to Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, and Silver Lake. We also went to John Ball Zoo, attended a movie at The Kent Theater, and enjoyed lunch at the Cedar Springs Brewing Company. Our neighborhood called it “The Summer of Marina,’ as we all enjoyed showing her the best that Pine Lake had to offer, including swimming, boating and bonfires.”

It sounds like you all had a great summer, and thank you to Marina for taking us with you to Spain!

The Post traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in June, with Amy Johnson and Grant Gould, of Cedar Springs, for a destination wedding! Grant and Amy became Mr. and Mrs. Grant Gould on June 20, 2017 on Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana. They stopped to take a photo on the beach with the Post during their wedding reception, where they celebrated with 40 of their close family members and friends. The Post they are holding in the photo had their engagement inside.
While in the Dominican Republic, the couple went out on the ocean in a boat and went snorkeling, swam with sharks, swam with stingrays, and got kissed by a sea lion on the cheek! “Punta Cana was absolutely beautiful,” said Amy.
Congratulations to the happy couple, and thank you for letting us be a part of it!
