Youth Red Hawks bring home hardware from Belding and Tri County

Twenty-seven wrestlers from CSYW traveled to Belding and Tri County to compete in MyWAY youth wrestling action with 17 finishing in the medals. A larger contingent went to Belding and finished 5th overall in pins with 20. Coach Troupe was impressed with the effort. 

“Now that we are entering the midway point of the season, everyone is starting to get their legs under them and the brackets aren’t getting any easier,” he said. “Our kids continue to improve every week and that’s what we’re looking for.”

At Belding High School, the 2014-2013 age group got off to a good start with Desiree VanDyke taking 4th in the novice 49lb bracket. Kamden Kohler had another strong finish as he took 2nd in the novice 77lb bracket. The age group was rounded out by Henry Galinis in the combined 77/82lb bracket with another 1st place finish.

The 2012-2011 age group had a slew of Red Hawks medal starting on the novice side with Christian Homrich taking 3rd place in the 85lb bracket. Wyatt Dickinson brought home the gold in the novice 95lb bracket. Taylor Crystal and Dillon VanDyke finished the day in 4th place and 2nd place respectively.

The 2010-2009 age group also had a good showing for the Red Hawks as there were a number of 1st and 2nd place finishes! In the combined novice bracket of 65/70lbs Kyam Gorby wrestled his was to a 1st place finish while NaHaar Nicholls took 2nd in the novice 75lb bracket. In the combined open bracket of 65/70lbs Red Hawks took the top two places with Eli Gunderson taking 1st and Elijah Elam taking 2nd.

At Tri County High School it was much of the same for the Red Hawks. Canaan Streeter wrestled his way to a 4th place finish in the 2017-2015 46lb weight class. In the 2014-2013 age group, Scott Odren took 3rd in the 49lb weight class. The 2012-2011 age group saw a trio of Hawks take 1st place with Hudson Cassiday in the 66lb weight class, Sierra Streeter in the 69lb weight class, and Ben Streeter in the 130lb weight class. Wrapping up the action in the 2010-2009 age group was a 2nd place finish in the 80lb bracket by Bryson Streeter.

This week the Red Hawks will travel to Grand Haven High School for more MyWAY West Region Action.
