Elizabeth Mae Smith age 89 of Cedar Springs, MI was welcomed from her home into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2021. In the last few months she survived short bouts of illness that taxed her and brought bodily decline. She was born November 13, 1931 in Colorado Springs, CO, the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Millard) Smith. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Isabelle, and brother-in-law, Charles Brace. She was Aunt Beth to Paul (June) Brace, Esther Rapa, Timothy Brace, Rhoda (Hans) Nielsen, Nathan (Mary Beth) Brace, Rachel (Marcus) Dibble, and Sarah (Conner) Smith. Great-aunt to 58 and great-great aunt to 69 and 2 in Heaven. Aunt Beth will be greatly missed as she lived most of our lives in her little house on the Brace homestead and was very much a part of our lives. It was her high priority to use what God had given her to benefit others. When we, her nephews and nieces, were little it was her $2 gifts in the birthday cards that made us smile. Christmases, vacations, or special financial needs of this Brace clan were very often met by her generous giving heart and hands. Prior to “absent from the body, present with the Lord,” Liz was very active at Snow Bible Church, praying, giving, sending cards of encouragement, decorating for events, and helping to publish the weekly church bulletin. Previously she was a long-time member at Cedar Springs Baptist Church. She served on committees, as church secretary and Sunday School superintendent. Elizabeth graduated from Cedar Springs Public Schools in 1949 and the evening school of Baptist Bible Institute of Grand Rapids in 1959. Liz worked at Davies IGA, Charbonneau Industries, and then Keller Brass for many years. She was active in Campus Crusade for Christ and volunteered alongside her sister in the Cedar Springs Public Schools and for Red Flannel Day activities. In lieu of flowers–Liz/Aunt Beth was a longtime contributor to Fred and Maxine Carlson of Bibles International, so if giving to Bibles International please note for Fred Carlson when contributing. The family will greet family and friends on Wednesday, November 10 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Visitation will continue Thursday 10:00 a.m. at Snow Bible Church, 1877 18 Mile Rd, Kent City, where the service will be held at11:00 a.m. Pastor Mike King officiating. Interment at Kent City’s Idlewild Cemetery.
