Volleyball holds Community against Cancer night

The Red Hawks Varsity Volleyball suffered back to back losses recently against South Christian and Wayland. They traveled to South Christian on Tuesday, October 5, for their final regular season conference competition. The Sailors won in three sets (25-20; 25-14; 25-17). The Lady Red Hawks then traveled to Wayland for the first round of the OK Gold Conference Tournament, falling to the 2nd seed Wildcats 13-25; 16-25 and 15-25. Varsity volleyball is now 1-7 in conference and 7-14 overall heading into the final weeks of the season.

Leading in the Wayland match was senior setter Makenna Outwin with 7 service points, 3 aces, 9 assists,4 digs and 2 kills. Melissa Goslin topped the night in kills with 4. Alyssa Detweiler led in blocks at 4 while adding 2 kills. Libero Brandy Singleton had 10 digs and 19 serve receptions, while Courtney Page tallied 2 kills, a block and 9 serve receptions. Outside hitter Aaliyah Calkins recorded 8 serve receptions and 6 digs. Setter Madeline Helton contributed an ace, an assist and a dig. Defensive Specialist Aleyna Moleski aided the defense with 6 to target serve receptions and one dig. 

Junior Varsity took a loss to South Christian in two sets before beating Wayland 25-23 and 25-20. The Freshman Red Hawks lost in a tight match to South Christian 18-25, 24-26 followed by a victory over Wayland 25-21 and 25-19.

All three levels returned to action Tuesday, October 18, when they travelrf to Thornapple Kellogg for the second round of the Conference Tournament.  

On Wednesday, October 20, Cedar Springs High School hosted a “Community Against Cancer” night at their home quad with Central Montcalm, Greenville and Shelby. The event recognized families impacted by cancer and the proceeds raised will be donated to two local families. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be mailed to CSHS, Attn: Matt Moffett, 204 E Muskegon St. 49319. 

Varsity plays ends the week at the Hesperia Volley against Violence Panther Invite on Saturday, October 23, wiith competition starting at 9:00am.
