Marian Andersen

Marian Andersen, age 95, was an extraordinary woman in this world. However, her name was never printed in books or her picture never published. She lived her entire life serving others and passed away during the pandemic this past December, in Sparta, Michigan, where she resided at Meadow Lark Retirement Village. Up until Marian passed away, she was concerned about the needs of others. This passion and her ability to be a loyal friend, helper and inspiration to everyone she met, brought people to Sparta on Thursday for a celebration of her life. It was a warm day and the Kwanzan Cherry Blossom Tree planted in her honor had some remaining flowers that hadn’t yet fallen. Senior Neighbors of Sparta and Meadow Lark Retirement Village would like to thank Mike Knuth from Alternative Lawn Care for donating the tree and beautiful inscribed stone in Marian’s honor. Marian’s friends from Sparta Senior Neighbors also took up a collection for Marian’s tribute. Marian was a volunteer secretary for Sparta Senior Neighbors for many years and worked diligently to help with the Senior Neighbors mission, which is “enhancing the lives of seniors, no longer alone.” Marian made a difference in not only the lives of seniors, but everyone she came in contact with in her 95 years on this earth. Marian was a registered nurse and worked in the jungles in Peru, where she worked at the Headwaters of the Amazon. She worked primarily with the Campa tribe. She oversaw the health of mission personnel assigned to Peru. Years later, Marian was returned to the states for treating a disease acquired in the jungle. After coming home, Marian worked nursing shifts. During her retirement years she was a private nurse for many patients. Marian taught children how to play the piano and lead Bible classes. Marian is a true example of a great woman with a devotion towards others. Sparta Senior Neighbors and Meadow Lark Retirement Village miss her greatly. As the tree grows and blooms in the seasons to come, we will look to it remembering the great lady she was.
