ROBERT GLEN MAXWELL

Mr. Robert Glen Maxwell, of Cedar Springs, age 88, went to be with the Lord on February 24th 2021. Bob was at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on April 12th, 1932. He proudly served in the United States Navy where he was boxing fleet champion. He retired from American Seating after 46 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, especially rabbit hunting, fishing, his hobby farm, camping with his family and gardening. Bob also loved sports especially boxing and watching school sporting events. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Sophia (Kuyt) Maxwell and sister Eleanor (Bob) Shick. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann (Metcalf) Maxwell; his children, Ardith and Alan Rouse, Jim Maxwell and Kathy Smith, Lori and Gene Finch, Amy and Darrell Helsley, Tracy Merlington; and Rex and Sarah Maxwell; his grandchildren, Kent (Radine) MacDonald, Amanda MacDonald, Veronica (Justin) Myers, Caitlin Rouse, Joshua (Alexis) Rouse, Robert Rouse, Tony Finch, Chelsea (Michael) Reeder, Dylan Finch, Brooke Merlington, Taylor Merlington, Katelynn Fletcher, and Hannah Maxwell; his great-grandchildren, Parker, Paisley, Patrick, Austyn, Jessica, Landon, Hailey, Madison, Arabella, and one on the way. He is also survived by his sister Winifred (Don) Van Dyke; his brother, Frank (Judene) Maxwell; his brother-in-law, Verne Metcalf; many nieces and nephews; and his constant, faithful companion – his dog, Sassy. Funeral and committal services for Bob will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 at the Cedar Springs Baptist Church, 233 S. Main Street, Cedar Springs, MI 49319. Pastor Mike Wittmer will officiate. The Maxwell family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service from 12 p.m. -1 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place in Sand Lake Cemetery. The Maxwell family would like to thank Elana Caring Hospice for their care and support. Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Springs Athletic Boosters, Tandem 365, or to the Area Agency on Aging.
