Michigan artist creates art that reflects state’s nature and heritage

Keli Spears Hindenach, a mixed media artist, will have a new exhibit at O’Flynn’s Art Gallery located at 60 N. Main Street in Cedar Springs, from February 20-March 20. The exhibit celebrates the natural beauty and history of our area.

“At O’Flynn’s we strive to bring people together to celebrate the unique and diverse creativity of those around us, to lift each other up in mind and spirit,” said Amanda Litz, owner of O’Flynn’s. “It is our goal to share the passions and talents of our local artist with the community of Cedar Springs and the surrounding area, and Keli Spears Hindenach has passion and talent in spades. She brings the natural wonder of the beach to life with her jewelry, photos, and paintings.”

“At O’Flynn’s we support local artists, craftsmen, and talented community members by providing a platform for them to showcase their unique custom one-of-a-kind products,” continued Litz. “Join us in appreciating the awe and splendor her work inspires.”

Participating in over 300 exhibits and shows to date, Keli Spears Hindenach uses various mediums to explore the themes of coastal waterways and our amazing local history and beauty. Growing up in Michigan on America’s north coast, Keli continues to be inspired by the great lakes region and currently lives in Albion, Michigan.

“I take inspiration from wandering along the water’s edge in our local environments,” said Hindenach. “This exhibition is a reflection of the region’s coastlines and their history.”

The exhibit opens at noon on February 20 with an artist meet and greet until 2 p.m. O’Flynn’s Art Gallery is located at 60 N Main Street in downtown Cedar Springs and provides a diverse array of classes, studio spaces and events.

Ms. Hindenach studied art and history with an undergraduate degree from Illinois State University. Her graduate work at Arizona State University led to a career as a museum curator and cultural non-profit director. Keli has taught various art courses, camps and workshops from the preschool to college levels. For the exhibit opening, she will teach a class at 2 p.m. “The Business of Art” and a wire wrapping class at 4pm.

“We’ve had an overwhelmingly positive response to the ‘Business of Art’ class already,” said Hindenach. “We  are getting  a great mix of staff, volunteers, and artists that all want to learn more and talk about their perspectives. With Covid keeping so many people at home for so long, a number of individuals have either re-engaged with their art or turned to selling it for the first time to make up for lost income.”

With her husband Michael, Keli owns Along The Shores LLC and is represented in galleries and art centers throughout the United States.  More information may be found on www.alongtheshoresllc.com
