Cedar Springs Baptist Church calls new pastor

Cedar Springs Baptist Church calls new pastor
Dr. Michael Wittmer, the new
pastor at Cedar Springs Baptist
Church, and his wife, Julie.

On September 27, 2020, the congregation of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, formerly First Baptist Church of Cedar Springs, called Dr. Michael E. Wittmer to serve as senior pastor/teacher and are delighted to introduce him to the community.

Pastor Mike, as he prefers to be called, and wife Julie, a gifted pianist, live in the Rockford school district with their three children: Avery, Landon, and Alayna.  Raised in Ohio, he is an avid Ohio State fan and enjoys authentic Asian cuisine, a taste developed from his years teaching English in Beijing.

He earned a B.A. in pre-seminary from Cedarville University; a M.Div. in Missions and Th.M. in Historical Theology from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary; and a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Calvin Theological Seminary. He has written and published seven books, many articles and is a speaker at regional, national and international conferences. A faculty member at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary since 1996, he teaches courses in historical and systematic theology and directs the school’s Center for Christian Worldview. In addition to his extensive knowledge of scripture and biblical history, we find him warm, genuine, possessing a pastor’s heart and a wonderful sense of humor.

Pastor Mike is eager to serve God with a congregation that cares about being the body of Christ in the Cedar Springs community and beyond. He is committed to leading the congregation in their desire to share the love of God in Jesus Christ and began his ministry October 4, 2020.

The church also adopted the new name, Cedar Springs Baptist Church. Being recognized as the first established church in Cedar Springs, the church was formerly named The First Baptist Church of Cedar Springs and went by that for 161 years. Today, the church offers a Sunday morning worship service at 11 a.m., and children’s and youth ministries on Sunday evenings at 5:30 p.m.
