WMP wrestlers claim victories

This past weekend, West Michigan Pursuit had grapplers competing in several different competitions. 78 lb Quinten Cassiday, 5th/6th grade and 75 lb Josh Vasquez, 7th/8th grade travelled to Monticello, Minnesota for the last National tournament of the Midwest Belt Tour Series. Both Quinten and Josh claimed the Championship Title along with their belt for placing in the top four, three out of the four competitions. 

The West Region was hosted by Caledonia. WMP had four grapplers enter. 107/114 lb Evan Mouch, 13/15 age group finished 2nd. Caledonia Champions are 95 lb Harper Cheng, 11/12 age group; 60 lb Jace Schut, 9/10 age group and 63 lb Blake Werkema, 9/10 age group. 

The Central Region hosted the Greights tournament at Holt. 63 lb Landon Learn, 9/10 age group was our sole grappler to enter. Learn finished 3rd. 

The North Region was hosted by Lakeview. WMP entered 23 grapplers to compete. 49 lb Emmett Russo, 5/6 age group and 107/114 lb Logan Goguen, 13/15 age group both finished 4th. 80 lb Kamden Witte, 11/12 age group finished 3rd. 55 lb Jaxson Babcock, 7/8 age group; 64 lb Declan Mead, 7/8 age group; 49 lb Kooper Witte, 7/8 age group and 66 lb Tatianna Castillo, 9/10 age group all finished 2nd. Lakeview Champions are 77 lb JJ Petersen, 7/8 age group, 64 lb Dylan Russo, 7/8 age group; 52 lb Ethan VanDyke, 7/8 age group; 75 lb Evan Andrews, 11/12 age group; 80 lb Alex Buskirk, 11/12 age group; 60 lb Brennan Dietz, 9/10 age group; 90 lb Tyler Parmeter, 11/12 age group; 105 lb Blake Peasley, 11/12 age group and 63 lb Travis Pike, 9/10 age group. 

Kooper Witte and Carter Giles also wrestled on the school based duals for Greenville on Saturday. Witte and Giles both went 4-0 for the day. Their team finished 2nd in their pool and 3rd overall. 

WMP had 83 matches and claimed 67 victories this weekend. Out of 25 grapplers that entered, 23 finished in the top four, claiming 14 Championship Titles. “This group of kids are peaking at the right time. I am excited to see how they finish at Regionals in less than a month’s time,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.
