Lowell wrestling hosted the first tournament of the 2019-2020 MYWAY Western Region. West Michigan Pursuit entered 17 grapplers to Lowell. They also had two grapplers travel to West Virginia to compete at the American Pride tour,  and one travelled to the Central Region for the monster medals being offered at Eaton Rapids.

Brody Compau wrestled both the Duals and individual event this past weekend. Compau wrestled on MYWAY Southwest 9U. He went 5-1 for the day and his team finished 3rd. For the individual event on Sunday, he went 3-2 and finished 4th. Quinten Cassiday, 74 lbs, wrestled the individual event. Cassiday entered the 12U division and finished 3rd. Alex Buskirk, 85 lbs, entered the 11/12 age group. Buskirk went 3-1 and finished with a true 2nd.

At the Lowell tournament, our team placed 16 of the 17 in the top four. Out of 71 matches, WMP claimed 50 victories: 63 lb Brennan Dietz, 9/10 age group finished 4th; finishing third was 107 lb Xavier Carpentier, 13/15 age group; 95 lb Logan Goguen 13/15; and 60 lb Jace Schutt, 9/10 age group. Finishing as runner up was 95 lb Harper Cheng, 11/12 age group; 63 lb Landon Learn, 11/12 age group; 66 lb Travis Pike, 9/10 age group and 60 lb Blake Werkema, 9/10 age group. WMP Champions of the day were 66 lb Tatianna Castillo, 9/10 age group; 85 lb Luke Egan, 11/12 age group; 112 lb Blake Peasley, 11/12 age group; 80 lb Alex Russo, 11/12 age group; 64 lb Dylan Russo, 7/8 age group; 49 lb Emmett Russo, 5/6 age group; 57 lb Kassie Sapp, 9/10 age group and 52 lb Ethan VanDyke, 5/6 age group.

“I was very pleased at the progress from several of our wrestlers. Lesson plans have been adjusted and have had positive results at a faster pace. I truly have some of the best parents in the sport and am grateful to them,” said Head Coach, Dave Andrus.
