Woman’s horse wins the coveted World Champion Title

Michigan Quarter Horse Futurity Champion with Deanna Bailey.

On August 15, 2018, Deanna Bailey, of Cedar Springs, test rode a horse that she was looking to buy after having tragically lost her 2-year-old prospect. Fast forward to August 15, 2019, when Maid for Money, George, was crowned a World Champion in the 3-year-old Limited Open Hunter Under Saddle at the NSBA World Show in Tulsa, OK.

“It literally was one year to the day that I tried George out for the first time and we bought him just a few days later,” said Bailey. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would ever own a World Champion. “

George was piloted in the 3-year-old Open Limited HUS class by Bailey’s trainer Amber Hanson Pickard. Maid for Money was also the Breeder’s Championship Futurity Reserve Champion in Tulsa. George has already won several other titles this year. In June, he was the 3-year-old Intermediate Champion at the Tom Powers Futurity in Berrien Springs with Amber Hanson Pickard in the Irons. He was also crowned a two-time Unanimous Futurity Champion at the Michigan Futurity in mid September. He won the Non Pro Division with Bailey and then went on to win the open with Amber Hanson Pickard.

Although this team has accomplished a lot in just a short time, their year is far from over. In just two short weeks this team will be heading down to Columbus, OH for the largest Quarter Horse show in the United States. George will compete in the Amateur and the 3-year-old division. “Winning the Congress would be an absolute dream come true,” remarked Bailey.

George will then travel to Oklahoma City for a chance at the coveted World Champion title at the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show in November. Last year Bailey rode her other horse, Total Hotness, to a Reserve World Champion title in the level 2 Equitation. She will be back to compete in this same event with Total Hotness this year as well. This will be her first year competing with George in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle. George will also be competing in the Junior Hunter Under Saddle with Amber Hanson Pickard.

George and Bailey are currently leading the Nation in the Amateur Hunter Under Saddle, which is no small feat, especially since this is their first year competing in the Amateur and George is only 3. Deanna and George will be traveling to Florida at the end of December with hopes to finish the year strong and win the National Title, which ends on Dec 31.

“Needless to say, this has been a very exciting year for me and my horses, Maid for Money and Total Hotness. Whenever I am at the bigger shows and they announce where I am from, I always chuckle and think, ‘I bet no one knows where the heck that little city is.’ But I think I have their attention now. Just a small town girl trying to live her dream one ride at a time.”
