Boys track sending six to state meet

The Cedar Springs Red Hawks traveled to Forest Hills Eastern on Friday, May 17, 2019, for their regional track meet, where they qualified six boys for the state meet with Cedar Springs finishing 7th overall of out 14 teams.  

The 4 x 800 meter team ran their fastest time of the year finishing 2nd and qualifying for the state meet in a time of 8:08.94.  This team consisted of Daniel Vermulm, Jaydon Moleski, Dilan Sargent, and Corey Bowers.

Individual qualifying team members include sophomore Corey Bowers, who finished 2nd in the 1600 meter run with season best for him in a time of 4:29.2; junior Dilan Sargent who ran his personal best 800 meter run finishing 2nd in a time of 2:00.10; sophomore Alex Nylaan finishing 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal best of 41.81, and junior Justus Larsen placing 2nd in high jump with a height of 6’.  

Also placing at the regional meet were Alex Nyaan 5th in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.02; Anthony Brew placing 4th in pole vault at 12’4”; and Logan Douglas placing 5th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.10.

“All of the state qualifiers will be returning next year so that is exciting. I am again very proud of the efforts put out by the whole team this year,” said coach Jeffrey Brazier.

The boys will compete in the MHSAA LP Division 2 state meet on Saturday, June 1, held at Zeeland Stadium. 

Also a congrats goes out to the JV team for finishing 2nd overall out of six on Tuesday, May 14, at the OK White JV Conference meet that took place at Lowell High School. 

First place finishers included Logan Douglas in the 400 meter run with a personal best of 54.40; Austin Mann in the 3200 meter run at 10:53; Carlos Ramos, Trevor Page, Josh Vitacco, and Tucker Cooke in the 4×100 relay in a time of 49.55; Bryant Maley, Logan Douglas, Alex Nylaan, and Dilan Sargent in the 4×200 meter relay at 1:39.13; and Carlos Ramos, Alex Nylaan, Bryant Maley, and Logan Douglas placing first in the 4×400 meter relay at 3:47.47.  Tucker Cooke also placed first in long jump at 16’10”.  Congratulations to all!
