WMP at Metro Greights, Meijer State Games and more

This past weekend, West Michigan Pursuit spread out to compete in different competitions. 

WMP had five travel to the Metro Region for the Greights tournament in Roseville. 55 lb Blake Werkema, 7/8 age group finished 3rd. 80 lb Alex Buskirk, 11/12 age group and 43 lb Kooper Witte, 4/6 age group both finished 2nd. Metro Greights Champions are 69 lb Evan Andrews, 9/10 age group and 54 lb Carter Giles, 9/10 age group. 

112 lb Isa Starr traveled to the West Region’s tournament hosted at Davenport. Starr finished 3rd in the 11/12 age group. 

WMP had five travel to Pennsylvania for Team Duals on Saturday and Individual events on Sunday. 75 lb Quinten Cassiday wrestled on MI Mayhem’s 10U Team. Cassiday went 4-1 for the day and his team finished 1st. 72 lb Luke Egan wrestled on Cyclones 12U Team. Egan won 2 matches for the day and his team finished 5th. 85 lb Ayden McClurken wrestled on Cyclones 12U Team. McClurken won a match and his team finished 5th. 80 lb Tyler Parmeter wrestled on TNT 10U Team. Parmeter won three matches and his team finished 2nd. 72 lb Josh Vasquez wrestled on MI Mayhem’s 12U Team. Vasquez went 4-1 for the day and his team finished 3rd. For the PENNWAY Individuals, Tyler Parmeter finished 5th in his division. Ayden McClurken finished 2nd and Champions of the day are Luke Egan and Josh Vasquez.

Harper Cheng and Kaleb Pautke also wrestled on their Byron Center school-based duals team on Saturday. Both claimed 3 victories each and their team finished 2nd. The rest of the team traveled to the South West region’s Go Earn It competition at Wings Stadium. 90 lb Xavier Carpentier, 11/12 age group and 58 lb Tatianna Castillo, 7/8 age group finished 3rd. 75 lb Quinten Cassiday, 9/10 age group; 95 lb Blake Peasley, 11/12 age group, 64 lb Desmond Smith, 7/8 age group and 66 lb Kellen Weckesser, 9/10 age group all finished 2nd. Valentine’s Day Brawl Champion is 49 lb Brody Compau, 7/8 age group. 

“These kids are exposed to some of the toughest competition in the nation,” remarked Head Coach Dave Andrus. “Their sportsmanship continues to impress me whether coming down from an incredible win or having to pick themselves back up from a tough loss.”
